This greater density is intended to provide mechanical and dimensional stability. Two opposing splines (4) are each provided with at least two holes (18) close to the corners and the rear face, reinforced through the use of a metal angle (6) shaped to match the corresponding rear edge of the panel (2). The invention relates to a covering and fire-protection device for metal girders used in buildings. The casing comprises four modular elements, namely: first and second U-shaped section elements (10, 12) closely fitting the flanges of the girder (4) and positioned facing one another; and third and fourth straight section elements (20, 22) each connecting the first and second elements (10, 12) and closing the essentially rectangular compartment. The casing is formed by fire-resistant panels (14, 18, 19, 24) that are covered with a metal sheet (16, 26).
