TIMER SYNCHRONISATION USING RADIO FREQUENCY SIGNAL OFFSET
The timers of two devices may be synchronised to measure the same predefined time value by, at a receiving device, measuring the difference between the carrier frequency of an RF signal received at the device and an oscillator frequency of the device and adjusting the threshold amount at which interrupts are raised by the timer of that device. If the device determines that the RF carrier signal received from a further device is of a higher frequency than the frequency of its own oscillator, then the device reduces the value of the threshold amount so that its timer circuitry raise interrupts more frequently. On the other hand, if the device determines that the RF carrier signal received from the further device is of a lower frequency than the frequency of its own oscillator, the device then increases the threshold amount so that its timer circuitry raises interrupts less frequently.

A central control system initiates a single operation, to cause the firmware update to be applied across the network by providing multiple requests to different servers, where the network is divided by each request specifying a unique set of gateways. Each of the servers supplies packets comprising the firmware update to the set of gateways identified by the request received from the control system, where those packets comprise the same transfer identifier (i.e. the same identifier for the firmware update process). Each endpoint receives packets from a gateway. Since those packets comprise the same transfer identifier, if an endpoint migrates between gateways, the endpoint will still receive packets having the same transfer identifier, which will, therefore not be dropped.

SMART INFRASTRUCTURE CONTROL SYSTEMS (SICS) SECURITY MONITORING AND DEFENSE
The control application generates log files that provide information about the management of the plurality of devices it is responsible for. The information in the log files is dependent upon the messages received from the devices or the commands issued to the devices. For example, in the case of smart meters, the log files generated comprise meter readings, firmware changes, firmware updates, indications as to whether or not the meter has been opened up, indications of overheating at the meter. A software agent extracts information from the log files that may be analysed to determine any anomalies that may be associated with an attack on the system. The analysis performed may comprise pattern matching against the information obtained from the log files, performing an AI analysis of the information obtained from the log files, identifying a signature, etc.

Endpoint clock frequency adjustment for narrowband and ultra-narrowband communications in mesh network
Systems and methods are disclosed for adjusting clock frequencies of endpoint devices in a mesh network for narrowband and ultra-narrowband communications. An endpoint device receives a reference timing signal over a wireless network from a reference device in the network. The endpoint device determines the current value of the clock frequency of the endpoint device and further determines the frequency difference between the reference frequency of the reference timing signal and the current value of the clock frequency. Based on the frequency difference, the endpoint generates a control signal and applies the control signal to the crystal oscillator of the endpoint device to adjust the frequency of the crystal oscillator. The endpoint device communicates with another device in the network using the oscillating signal generated by the adjusted crystal oscillator.

Secure tokens for controlling access to a resource in a resource distribution network
A system for generating and applying a secure token in a resource distribution network is provided. For example, a headend system generates a time-based token based on a time duration specified for a meter. The time-based token indicates the time duration for the meter. The time-based token is further generated based on an identifier of the meter. The headend system transmits the time-based token to the meter via at least a mesh network. After receiving the time-based token, the meter validates the time-based token to determine that the time-based token is generated for the meter based on information related to the identifier of the meter. If the meter determines that the time-based token is valid, the meter connects premises associated with the meter to a resource distribution network for at least the time duration specified in the time-based token.

The method further includes receiving, from the machine learning model, a classification indicating an identified anomaly. The method further includes based on the classification, sending an alert to a utility operator.
