In use, rotation of the rotor draws the fluid from the fluid inlet into the working chambers and ejects the fluid from the working chambers into the fluid outlet. The vanes are formed of a carbon graphite or ceramic material and the rotor is formed of a ceramic material, which provides reduced thermal expansion compared to convention materials such as stainless steels. A base portion of each of the slots of the rotor is enlarged and has a rounded cross - sectional shape. The pump assembly further comprises a strainer assembly received into an opening in the housing and extending across the fluid inlet for filtering particulate matter from the fluid. The strainer assembly comprises a thermal sensor for sensing a temperature of fluid passing through the fluid inlet.
