A fiber optic connector contains a housing on which either a male or a female ferrule is mounted. A cable entering from one end of the fiber optic connector is spliced into multiple optical fibers. The tips of the optical fibers are coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin films which are transparent for signal transmission within a wavelength range from 820 nm to 1625 nm. Two fiber optic connectors can be connected by intermating the male and the female ferrules, in which the two corresponding optical fibers are aligned with or without physical contact.
A system that reduces crosstalk and return loss within electrical communication connectors includes at least two compensating capacitors connected in series that compensate each offending capacitor. An additional inductive component that is connected between two compensating capacitors so that the adjustable inductance of the inductive component can be varied to modify the capacitive coupling effect achieved by the compensating capacitors as a function of frequency. A shape-neutral structure containing two compensating capacitors and one series inductive component in between is positioned so that each compensating capacitor is juxtaposed parallel to the offending capacitor. There is no direct contact between the shape-neutral structure and the transmission lines, and the shape-neutral structure does not change the shape of PCB traces and reduces both crosstalk and return loss.

A hermaphroditic connector assembly for fiber optic cables includes a base portion defining at least one passage for receiving at least one optical fiber. The connector further includes an insert cap that selectively connects to and disconnects from the base portion to receive the optical fiber. The insert cap defines a first face and a tower extending substantially perpendicularly adjacent the first face. The tower defines a cavity therein. A first ferrule is supported by and extends through the first face of the insert cap. A second ferrule is supported by and extends through the tower, and the second ferrule is within the cavity defined by the tower. The first and second ferrules define sets of socket and pin termini within the hermaphroditic connector assembly. An electrical pin terminus extends through the first face, and an electrical socket terminus extends into the tower.
A telecommunications patching system is provided having a panel and at least one cassette movably received in the panel. The cassette receives a plurality of telecommunication jacks. The panel and cassettes are oriented horizontally. Each jack includes a front cavity adapted to receive a patch cord plug having a patch cord cable extending therefrom. There is provided an optical fiber cable having a plurality of optical fiber members. Each optical fiber member includes an optical fiber and a protective coating surrounding the optical fiber. A polymer coating surrounds the plurality of optical fiber members and a portion of the polymer coating is located between at least some of the optical fiber members. The optical fiber members and the polymer coating form an optical fiber unit. A tight buffer surrounds the optical fiber unit.
