A mounting interface for a fixture such as a door closer mechanism is configured to attach to a mount surface such as a door. A lighting system includes a control unit for controlling brightness level of a light source based on a signal indicative of ambient light level provided by a photocell and a signal indicative of detected motion provided by a motion sensor. The control unit, in some cases, increases the brightness level of the light source as the ambient light level decreases, or decreases the brightness level as the ambient light level increases. In other cases, the control unit increases the brightness level to a maximum brightness level when motion is detected.
