A rail 13 for supporting a trolley 14 of gantry crane 10 has rail sections 18,19 on opposites sides of a joint 17 provided with end regions 20 of a modified rail head profile that directs the wheels of the trolley 14 over ridges 23 that rise gradually above the height L1 of the rail head 27 while approaching the joint 17. The ridges 23 then carry the wheels into the joint 17 where the transition from one rail section to the next occurs over reinforced region. The load-bearing apexes A of the ridges are disposed away from the side edges of the rail 13 and away from the ends of each projecting portion 21. The rail increases the operational life of a crane rail by reducing wear rate in high stress areas of the joint 17 and by adding additional wear material above the rail at the joint.
A clamp device for clamping a boom hinge rail 12 of gantry crane in-situ comprises a cap portion 14 slidably mounted on a base portion 13 and secured together by a Locking bolt 15, the cap portion 14 comprising a body 18 and a nose 19 which extends laterally outwardly from the body 18 along a nose axis. The clamp portion 13 and the body 18 of the cap portion 14 comprise complementary opposed arcuate mating surfaces 21, 22 which permit rotational movement to the cap portion 14 relative to the base portion 13 about an axis P which extends perpendicular to the 10 nose axis. The base and cap portions 13, 14 of the clamp always engage each other regardless of the position of the nose of the clamp, so that forces applied to the nose 19 of the clamp 10 by the rail 12 are directly applied to the base portion 13 of the clamp 10, thereby providing a clamp which is less prone to failure.

A rail fastening device (10) comprises a clip 16 and a washer (17) for fastening to a rail support (12) by an upstanding bolt 14 having a nut (15), which can be tightened to lock the device (10) in position. The clip (16) and washer (17) comprise respective apertures (18), (19) for receiving the bolt (14). The washer (17) is adapted to rotate as the nut (15) is tightened until a formation on the washer (17) abuts an upstanding formation (24) on the rear of the clip (16) at point A, whereupon continued tightening of the nut (15) causes the washer (17) to pivot at point A around an offset axis, so as to bring the bolt (14) into contact with a front surface (18F) of the clip aperture (18). Further tightening of the nut (15) pivots the washer (17) to a point where any displacement force applied to the clip (16) by the rail is applied directly to the bolt (14) and not to the washer (17). In this manner, the risk of the washer failing, or bolt (14) bending is avoided.

The base and cap portions (13, 14) of the clamp always engage each other regardless of the position of the nose of the clamp, so that forces applied to the nose (19) of the clamp (10) by the rail (12) are directly applied to the base portion (13) of the clamp (10), thereby providing a clamp which is less prone to failure.
In this manner, the risk of the washer failing, or bolt (14) bending is avoided.

Metal fasteners, namely, nails and screws; metal mounting brackets for general use Anti-vibration mountings and articles, made principally of rubber and substitutes for rubber, namely, rail pads
A rail support and fastening device (10) comprises an elongate soleplate (11) having complementary joint portions (14a, 14b) of a lap joint at its respective opposite ends for engaging respective complementary joint portions of adjacent devices (10), which can be mounted end-to-end therewith so as to provide a continuous support under the rail. The device may be formed as a one-piece member of metal by casting. The device (10) may comprise raised formations (12) on the upper surface of the soleplate (1) which act as the base portions of clips for engaging the rail.
A rail fastening device comprises a metal soleplate (11) for fixing to a support structure, a pair of clips (12) disposed on respective opposite sides of the soleplate (11) for engaging respective opposite sides of a rail (10) to be fastened and a resiliently deformable rail pad (20) disposed on the soleplate (11) between the clips (12). The rail pad (20) comprises elongate ribs (21) on its lower surface which extend into complementary sockets (18) formed in the upper surface of the soleplate (11), the sockets (18) and ribs (20) extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rail (10) in use. The socket and rib (18, 21) prevent the rail pad (20) from moving and locate the rail pad (20) in such a way that any forces applied thereto do not promote tearing.
A rail fastening device comprises a clip (10) having a base (11) and a nose (12) for engaging a rail flange (F). The base (11) comprises circular aperture (14) in which a circular cam (13) is rotatably mounted, the cam (13) being provided with an eccentric aperture (24) for receiving a ground anchor (25), the cam aperture (24) being radially offset from the rotational centre of the cam (13) to define a cam lobe (15). The cam (13) may comprise a ramped circumferential shoulder (18) to engage a complementary shoulder (21) inside the base aperture (14) such that any rotation of the cam (13) under the applied load of the rail causes the cam (13) to move axially of the base aperture (14) thereby tightening the engagement of the anchor (25) on the cam (13) and preventing movement of the clip (10). The degree of rotation of the cam (13) may be limited so that it can only turn in the tightening direction under load.
A rail fastening device (100) comprises a lower plate (11) and an upper plate (12) provided with a pair of clips (13) for engaging the rail 16, the upper plate (12) being fastened to the lower plate (11) by a pair of fastening bolts (19) which extend through respective apertures (20) in the upper plate (12), the fastening bolts (19) being slidably mounted to the lower plate (11) for movement in a direction which, in use, extends transverse the rail (16). A jacking bolt (31) is arranged to lift the upper plate away from the lower plate as the bolt (31) is tightened and vice-versa. An alignment bolt extends 33 laterally between the upper and lower plates (11), (12) and is rotatable to displace the upper plate (12) laterally relative to the lower plate (11). A levelling bolt (102) threadably engaged with the lower plate is arranged to lift the lower plate (11) away from the surface on which the device (100) is seated as the bolt (102) is tightened and vice-versa.
There is proposed a rail member [see: 102] comprising a resiliently flexible elongate substrate comprising first and second major surfaces, the member comprising at least one channel formation [see: 202] formed transversally relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongate substrate across at least one of the first or second major surfaces,. according to a first embodiment, an insert [see: 304] is positioned between the first and second major surfaces;. according to a second embodiment, an insert [see: 304] extends longitudinally along the member.
