A direct troffer-style fixture for solid state light sources for use in these fixtures. Embodiments of the present invention provide a direct troffer-style fixture that is particularly well-suited for retrofit structures. The fixture comprises a retrofit troffer assembly that is removably attached within a T grid or pan structure. The retrofit fixture can be installed in two pieces: a first including a lens structure, a back reflector and 2 end reflectors; and the second component including a second portion of the back reflector. An interior space created by the lens structure houses light emitters and in some embodiments, a light engine and/or additional electronics. One or both of the end reflectors may be movable, slidable and/or rotatable, to accommodate installation. The back reflector covers most of the interior surfaces of the troffer fixture to direct more light out of the fixture.

Various optical elements, such as total internal reflection lenses, can be fabricated from materials having a higher index of refraction than materials typically used in such elements. The compact optical elements have at least one internal reflection surface that directs radiant energy (e.g., light) from a receiving end to a transmitting end. By using a high refractive index material, a lens can be fabricated that directs a greater portion of the light emitted from a source into the lens toward the transmitting end of the lens. Thus, less of the light spills out of the lens at a surface where emission is not intended, reducing the number of lossy bounces needed to direct the light in a particular direction.

A wide beam angle (diffuse) luminaire with an efficient multi-source radiative emitter array. Embodiments of the luminaire utilize one or more LEDs disposed around a perimeter of a protective casing. The LEDs are angled to emit into an internal cavity defined by the inner surface of the casing. The placement of the LEDs around the perimeter of the device reduces self-blocking and facilitates heat transfer from the LEDs through the casing or another heat sink and into the ambient. Light impinges on the inner surface and is redirected as useful emission. A diffuse reflective coating may be deposited on the inner surface to mix the light before it is emitted.
LED chip circuits, solid state light engines and SSL luminaires are disclosed that utilize memristors to vary LED chip emission. In different embodiments the resistance of said memristor can be varied to vary the drive signal applied to one or more LED chips, thereby varying the LED chip emission intensity. Solid state lighting (SSL) luminaries are disclosed wherein the emission intensity of discrete light sources within the SSL luminaire can be varied to produce luminaire light having different characteristics. The present invention can utilize the unique circuit topology of SSL luminaires to vary the emission intensity of different types of LEDs in the luminaire. In some embodiments, the different types of LEDs are connected in respective serial strings, and the intensity of emission of the LEDs in each of the strings can be varied by changing the electrical signal driving the strings.
