Method for producing a moulded part using a binder, which as a basic formulation contains water, at least one vegetable protein source and at least one alkaline reaction component, selected from alkali-metal and alkaline-earth-metal hydroxides, hydrogen carbonates and carbonates. A natural fibre mat of unoriented felted fibres is impregnated with the binder, any excess binder is removed and the set natural fibre mat is cured under the application of pressure and heat in a moulding tool and pressed to form the moulded part.
