A support system comprising a frame (3) which is preferably configured to support a mattress (4). The frame (3) is carried by a support arrangement (2) and configured to move relative to the support arrangement (2). The support arrangement (2) is configured to be attached to a structural room element. The system comprises a drive arrangement which incorporates a belt (28) and a motor (35) which is configured, upon activation, to drive the belt (28) to move the frame (3) relative to the support arrangement (2) between a first position and a second position. The system further comprises a clutch arrangement (33) which is operable to adjust a rotational coupling between the motor (35) and the belt (28). A counterweight (37) is attached to the belt (28) at a point which is substantially at the centre of mass of the counterweight (37).
