A sensor device, such as a consumption meter, with an LTE modem, a processor system connected with the LTE modem, and a sensor system comprising at least one sensor configured to sense a physical parameter and to generate an output accordingly to the processor system. The sensor device is configured to receive an activation time via the LTE network, wherein the activation time includes an absolute time and/or an indication of a specific LTE frame number. The processor system is configured to synchronize timing to a current LTE frame number in cooperation with the LTE modem. This may especially be done by the processor system signaling on an electric pin to the LTE modem which in response outputs a current LTE frame number, and along with the signaling on the electric pin, the processor system starts a timer. Thus, with the timer started at a known LTE frame number, the sensor device can calculate precisely to initiate a predetermined action time synchronized with the absolute time indicated in the received activation time along with a specific LTE frame number. The action may involve performing a measurement with a sensor in the sensor device time synchronized with the received activation time. This provides high precision time synchronization of a group of sensor devices, thus allowing performing measurements simultaneously by the group of senor devices. This allows group measurements which are not possible with the time precision of internal clocks of a group of sensor devices, and this time synchronization can be important for some applications, such as acoustic leak detection in a utility network.
A computer implemented method for identifying a fluid relation between a district flow meter and one or more consumption meters in a fluid distribution network. In a first step the method comprises performing a fluid balance calculation between fluid flow measured by the district flow meters and fluid flow measured by the one or more consumption meters. In a second step the method comprises identifying the fluid relation between the district flow meter and the one or more consumption meters in response to the fluid balance calculation and in response to measurements of acoustic noise in the fluid distribution network performed by the one or more consumption meters. Finally, the method comprises forming a group of one or more consumption meters being identified to have a fluid relation with the district flow meter, i.e. belonging to the same District Metered Area (DMA). A reliable automatic DMA generation can thus be provided, since it is based on both a fluid balance calculation and based on acoustic noise fingerprints captured in acoustic noise measurements performed by the consumption meters. In a preferred embodiment, a fluid balance calculation is provided as a first way of initially clustering the consumption meters, and the acoustic noise measurements are then used to verify or change the initial cluster.

UTILITY METER WITH CELLULAR COMMUNICATION INTERFACE
A method for updating Subscriber Identity Module, SIM, information in a battery powered utility meter with an integrated modem for cellular communication. The modem is with intervals controlled to connect to a cellular network. When the modem is connected to the cellular network data is transmitted to a head end system. As a response the modem receives a first data message from the head end system via the cellular network. The modem is controlled to remain connected to the cellular network long enough to receive the response whereafter the modem enters Power Saving Mode or is powered off. The utility meter determines if the first data message comprises an indication that a Short Message Service message or a second data message containing Subscriber Identity Module update information is to be received by the modem via the cellular network during a second time period. If the first data message comprises said indication, the modem is controlled to enter RRC idle state and Discontinuous Reception mode or Extended Discontinuous Reception mode, during the second time period. Finally, the modem enter idle state and power saving mode or is powered off, at the end of the second time period.
A method for dismantling a measurement device, e.g. a consumption meter, comprising a first housing element and a second housing element fastened to the first housing element so as to enclose a stack of elements comprising at least: one circuit board comprising electronic components configured for performing a measurement of a physical parameter, and one or more additional components, such as a battery. The method comprises forcing (F_PM) at least one push member, such as 2-10 pins or mandrels, against a wall of the first housing element in a direction towards the second housing element, so as to penetrate through the wall of the first housing element. Further, continuing (C_F_PM) to apply a force on the at least one push member in the direction towards the second housing element, to cause the at least one push member to apply a force on an element of the stack of elements such that it causes another element of the stack of elements to separate the second housing element and the stack of elements from the first housing element. The dismantling can be performed with minimal damage on the elements inside the device, and thus the method is suitable as a first step of an effective recycling process for recycling separated elements of the measurement device.

A battery-operated utility meter for measuring an amount of a liquid delivered from a utility distribution network to a consumption site network. The utility meter comprises a flow tube with an inlet and an outlet for passage of the liquid and a first and a second piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer arranged at the flow tube. A measurement circuit is arranged to transmit and receive ultrasonic signals through the liquid in the flow tube via the piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers and a digital processing unit is arranged for calculating a flow rate of the liquid in the flow tube based on the signals received by the first measurement circuit. The first measurement circuit and the digital processing unit are operated with intervals, to perform a finite duration flow rate measurement. Further, the utility meter includes an analogue second measurement circuit arranged for detecting a pressure transient of the liquid in the flow tube using the first and/or the second piezo electric transducer. The utility meter is arranged to continuously operate the second measurement circuit in a time period in between two adjacent finite duration flow rate measurements, to perform an intermediate pressure transient detection having a duration which is longer than the duration of the finite duration flow rate measurements.
A radio communication method involves utility meters installed at distributed installation locations with a data receiver. Data is received from the utility meters. Data is modulated on a received signal having a time-varying phase offset. Decision-directed phase tracking compensates for the time-varying phase offset. The compensated received signal is coherently demodulated to extract data. Extracted data is modulated to reconstruct a replica of the received signal. A phase offset prediction error—comparison between compensated received signal and the replica—and a phase offset prediction error covariance-divergence of compensated received signal and reference value and/or of phase offset prediction error and error reference value—are estimated and input into a Kalman filter. A Kalman filter output provides a prediction of time-varying phase offset in a feedback loop to compensate time-varying phase offset of received signal before compensated received signal is coherently demodulated to extract data.

A method for determining events in a network of consumption meters, in which an event is determined by grouping data wherein the event according to consumption meters which have detected this characterizing data. If groups of consumption meters match, this is determined as an event, the grouping being carried out according to the following criteria—temporal coincidence of the event—spatial concordance of the event—consistency of the event type. The spatial concordance is determined by determining and ranking the Euclidean distance of each of a plurality of consumption meters to everyone of the of others of the plurality of consumption meters, and by assigning the n closest consumption meters that have detected this characterizing data to a group of consumption meters.
The present invention provides a method for preventing frost damage to one or more flow meters installed in a fluid distribution network containing a fluid, wherein each flow meter is configured to measure a temperature, preferably an air temperature, and to wirelessly transmit the measured temperature, such as via a mobile or a fixed wireless reading system to a processing unit. The method comprises: 1) during a period continuously monitoring (M_TMP) the temperatures measured by the plurality of flow meters over a period of time, 2) performing a data analysis (P_DA) on the temperatures of the plurality of flow meters from the period, 3) based on the data analysis, identifying (I_FDC) one or more ones of the plurality of flow meters as frost damage candidates in a future frost period, and 4) transmitting (T_WS) a warning signal indicative of the frost damage candidates or initiating frost protection measures to protect the frost damage candidates. It has been found that it is possible to monitor temperatures in a no-frost period to identify a frost damage candidate, e.g. if a flow meter is positioned in a pit and the lid is removed thereby causing the risk of a frost damage of the flow meter.

SENSOR DEVICE WITH SYNCHRONIZED MEASUREMENT CAPABILITY

A flow meter unit (1) comprising a flow tube (2), a housing (3) and a housing compartment (4), wherein the housing compartment comprises an electronic metering circuitry (5). The flow meter unit uses a first sensor arrangement (6) for determining a fluid flow rate or a fluid flow volume through the flow tube. In order to determine further physical parameters relating to the fluid a second sensor arrangement (7, 20, 30, 32, 60) is placed outside the housing compartment (4), is fluidically and mechanically connected to the flow tube and is in wireless communication with the electronic metering circuitry (5) via a short-range antenna of transmitter and receiver means (8, 8', 8'', 8''') placed in the second sensor arrangement and a short-range antenna (9, 31, 67) placed inside the housing compartment (4). The short-range antenna is positioned at a height in-between a long-range antenna and a bottom wall of the housing compartment. The solution has the advantage that the risk of fluid leakage into the housing when using fluid sensors is reduced and that such a second sensor arrangement is easy to replace or to retro-fit to an already installed flow meter.

SENSITIVE AND ROBUST FRAME SYNCHRONIZATION OF RADIO FREQUENCY SIGNALS
A method for detecting a constant envelope burst-mode radio frequency (RF) signal with a known periodic synchronization sequence (PSS) represented therein, e.g. to be for reading of data from utility meters. An incoming RF signal is transformed into a digital baseband signal (DBS), and the phase domain part is processed by: 1) applying a correlation algorithm to correlate the DBS with a synchronization pattern corresponding to the PSS. 2) filtering the resulting correlation signal for removing at least a DC component of the correlation signal. 3) down-sampling the filtered correlation signal (or the correlation signal) with a sampling time controlled by a clock aligned with amplitude peaks in the filtered correlation signal (or the correlation signal). 4) performing a decision algorithm on the down-sampled signal to determine if PSS is present in the incoming RF signal. Then, 5) generating an output signal indicating if the known PSS is present in the incoming RF signal, in response to a result of the decision algorithm. The steps 1)-5) serve to detect if an amplitude in the correlation signal indicates the presence of the known PSS. Preferably, a second decision algorithm serves to detect if periodicity in the correlation signal indicates the presence of the known PSS, and finally the results of the first and second decision algorithms can be combined, e.g. by a logic AND operation, to arrive at a sensitive and reliable PSS detection result.
