The present invention provides a floating element (1, 1'), which is suitable for forming a useful-area floating platform, and the useful-area floating platform itself. The floating element (1) has a body with a standing area (2), side areas (3) and a base area (4), which is on a side of the body that is facing away from the standing area (2), wherein the body has connecting elements (7) for coupling to at least one further floating element (1). The body is formed from at least three parallel layers (A, B, C or A, D, C), wherein the standing area (2) forms an upper side of an uppermost layer (A) and the base area (4) forms an underside of a lowermost layer (C), which has at least one chamber (C') with at least one feed and discharge device. Arranged between the uppermost and lowermost layers (A, C) is a further functional layer (B, D), which includes a vibration damping device and/or technical infrastructure elements (8, 8').
