METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING SELECTIVE FORWARDING UNITS BANDWIDTH ESTIMATION OF VARIABLE BITRATE-ENCODED STREAMS' SUBSCRIBERS THROUGH PADDING NETWORK BOOSTING
A method and apparatus for determining a padding budget for improving bandwidth estimation of data streams encoded with variable bitrate include receiving a data stream having a variable bitrate, comparing a bandwidth estimation determined for a communication path between a data stream forwarding unit and an intended receiver of the data stream to a padding threshold. If the bandwidth estimation is less than the padding threshold, the padding budget is determined by subtracting a bitrate of the data stream from the bandwidth estimation. If the bandwidth estimation is not less than the padding threshold, the bitrate is compared to a padding baseline. If the bitrate is less than the padding baseline, the padding budget is determined by subtracting the bitrate from the padding baseline, and if the bitrate is not less than the padding baseline, no padding needs to be added to the data stream to be communicated to the intended receiver.

Method and apparatus for VOIP communication completion to a mobile device
A system and method for establishing a voice over Internet protocol link to a called party's mobile telephony device utilizes push notifications to activate a communications application on the called party's mobile telephony communications device. When a request to establish a voice over Internet protocol link to a mobile device is received by an incoming proxy server of a voice over Internet protocol service provider, the service provider causes a push notification to be sent to the mobile device. The called party can respond to the push notification in a manner that causes a communications application on the mobile device to be activated. Once the push notification has caused the communications application to activate, the communications application sends a special registration request to an outbound proxy server. The special registration request causes the outbound proxy server to initiate messaging that is ultimately delivered to an inbound proxy server, the messaging identifying the outbound proxy server with which the communications application has registered. The inbound proxy server can then communicate with the outbound proxy server to obtain information that allows a voice over Internet protocol link to be established with the called party's mobile telephony device.

A proxy server of an Internet protocol (IP) telephony system determines when a call setup message generated by a first of the IP telephony system's customers is directed to a second of the IP telephony system's customers. When that occurs, the call setup message is forwarded directly to a call cluster operated by the IP telephony system and that services the second customer. As a result, the call is handled internally by the IP telephony system, and there is no need to involve a second telephony system in conducting the requested call. The proxy server may also insert information into the call setup messaging to flag the call as an internal call between two customers of the IP telephony system.

System and method for a progressive dialer for outbound calls
A system and method are disclosed herein for an automated progressive dialer system. The system comprises maintaining a callee database for a calling campaign. A Presence registrar is maintains a list of call center agents, wherein the list comprises the agent's current state, account information and other metrics. An agent progressive dialer (APD) indicates an agent's current state to the Presence registrar and maintains an agent's open line to connect with a connected outbound call to a callee. One or more callees are selected to call based upon the agent's current state. Outbound calls are placed to the selected callee using a callee progressive dialer (CPD). Upon successfully connecting a call to a callee, the Presence registrar provides an available agent with an open line to receive the call. The CPD then bridges the successfully connected callee outbound call with the available agent's open line on the APD.

Method for providing tiered load balancing for a hosted voice-over internet protocol (VoIP) private branch exchange (PBX)
A system and method is provided for two-tiered load balancing on a hosted voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) private branch exchange (PBX). The system includes a plurality of client devices, at least one device load balancer, and at least one call load balancer. The device load balancer identifies a device group to which each client device belongs; and a cluster of computing resources for processing calls for the device group. The cluster is assigned to the device group based on prescribed conditions. In response to a communications request, call load balancers in communication with the device load balancers dynamically determine if predefined conditions are currently being met within an identified cluster of computing resources. If the predefined conditions are currently being met, then the communications request for a primary client device associated with the request is established via one of a plurality of server nodes within the cluster of computing resources.
A system and method are disclosed herein for managing conference bridge communication sessions. The system and method involves receiving a plurality of calls containing user media from users into a conference bridge, then connecting the plurality of calls via a load balancer to a plurality of conference servers on a network. A master broker dynamically selects a master conference server from among the plurality of conference servers to which the calls are connected. Once the master conference server is selected, the master broker directs all other conference servers to bridge the user media for the calls that are connected to the master conference server. The master conference server receives the user media from each of the connected conference servers. The master conference server is able to organize and mix the various user media and return this mixed media to each of the connected conference servers and thereby back to each user.
When IP telephony devices that make use of an Internet protocol (IP) based private branch exchange (PBX) service provider resister with the PBX service provider, they furnish local area network address information that indicates how the telephony devices can be reached directly on the local area network to which they are connected. This information is provided to other telephony devices within the same business or organization. As a result, the telephony devices within a business or organization can contact one another directly to setup and conduct telephony communications over a local area network, without the need for such telephony communications to pass over a public data network, or though assets of the IP based PBX service provider.
An Internet protocol (IP) telephony system provides telephony services to a mobile telephony device via data packet communications that traverse a data network. If the IP telephony system has received calls that were missed by the user of the mobile telephony device, or if the IP telephony system has received communications that have not yet been reviewed by the user of the mobile telephony device, information about those missed calls and unreviewed messages is delivered to the mobile telephony device so that the user can be alerted to their existence. The information may be delivered to the mobile telephony device in a push notification.
Methods and systems for intelligently terminating calls are provided herein. In some embodiments, a method for intelligently terminating calls may include receiving a call request directed to a communication identifier associated with a first user, determining a call termination action to associate with the call request based on (a) information associated with the call request and (b) previous call termination patterns associated with the first user, and terminating the call to one or more devices associated with the communication identifier based on the determined call termination action.
Methods and systems for resource load balancing of teleconference and video conference sessions are provided herein. In some embodiments, a method for resource load balancing of a teleconference session including a plurality of participant devices may include assigning each of the plurality of participant devices into one of a plurality of groups of participant devices based on at least one first heuristic, designating a leader device for each group of participant devices, based on at least one second heuristic to coordinate the teleconference session communications, and coordinating the teleconference session communications of each leader device to facilitate the teleconference session among the plurality of participant devices.
Methods and apparatus for recalling and replaying content during a communications session are provided herein. In some embodiments, methods for replaying content during a communications session may comprise detecting a real-time communications session between two or more participant devices, storing content of the communications session transmitted between the two or more participant devices as the real-time communications session persists, receiving a control request from a first participant device of the two or more participants devices to replay a portion of the content; and transmitting the portion of the content to at least one of the participant devices as the real-time communications session persists.

IP telephony communications are conducted by sending both audio data produced by a CODEC that represents received spoken audio input, and a textual representation of the spoken audio input. A receiving device utilizes the textual representation of the spoken audio input to help recreate the spoken audio input when a portion of the CODEC data is missing. The textual representation can be generated by a speech-to-text function. Alternatively, the textual representation can be a notation of extracted phonemes.
Systems and methods performed by an IP telephony system allow a user to request that his IP telephony device be set into a conference calling mode for an indefinite period of time. When the user's IP telephony device is in the conference calling mode, all parties that attempt to call the user's IP telephony device are added to a conference bridge tied to the user's IP telephony device. All incoming calls are treated in this fashion until the user cancels the conference calling mode and returns to a normal calling mode.

An Off Net scenario may occur during primary communications between a first and second caller, in which the second caller is connected to a network over a data channel and receives a second call over a voice channel resulting in an interruption of the primary communications between the original callers. In the Off Net scenario, a message indicating the original communication has been interrupted is received by a carrier. The carrier substitutes another communication device in place of the second caller's communication device to establish a secondary communication between the first caller's communication device and the third communication device. The secondary communication may inform the first caller of the interruption of the primary communication and may provide options regarding the primary communication to the first caller.
