Abrégé

A supply item has toner for use in an imaging device. A chip has memory storing quanta indicating allowed usage of the supply item over its lifetime and a multiplier correlating the quanta to toner mass. The imaging device requires quanta to conduct imaging operations and loads the quanta and multiplier by way of a certificate stored in the memory. The imaging device retrieves quanta from the chip over time and both devices keep tally. Initialization between the supply item and imaging device includes providing encrypted and unencrypted instances of firmware versions and certificates from the supply item that the imaging device can compare for security. Alternatively, the supply item defines a fuser assembly, imaging unit, intermediate transfer member, or other component installed for use in the imaging device.

Abrégé

An imaging device has a developer roll to provide toner to a photoconductive drum to develop a latent image on the drum for direct transfer to media or an intermediate transfer member. A power supply in communication with a controller sets relative voltages on the developer roll and drum. During transfer of the toner, the imaging device determines a current between the developer roll and drum. In turn, the controller determines a charge and mass of the toner for setting with the power supply an operating voltage on the drum or developer roll. Preventing and reporting toners with insufficient charge are other embodiments.

Abrégé

Sound or video systems are used to deliver predetermined content to a customer audience. It is important to validate that the intended material is being received and understood by the targeted audience. Sound or video system service providers prove their value by providing feedback metrics that the system is working as expected. The present invention automates and enhances this process and makes the validation continuous for constant validation at a much lower cost. Enhancements creates metrics beyond a human's ability to discern the quality of the service. The also includes features that can automatically determine the cause and recommended solution if the system's performance is not as expected. The metrics are then aggregated for full system wide operation in a graphical and tabular analytic interface.

Abrégé

Provided is a toner blend composition comprising a first pigmented toner and a second toner that is devoid of any pigment additive, i.e., a ‘non-pigmented or clear toner’. The non-pigmented or clear toner is about 1% to about 15% by weight of the toner blend composition. The resulting inventive toner blend composition surprisingly exhibits similar print density on a page compared to a fully pigmented toner. Moreover, this toner blend composition exhibits improvement in toner usage per page, thus lowering toner cost compared to a fully pigmented toner. The non-pigmented or clear toner may be used in combination with either a monochrome or conventional toner using a carbon black pigment, or a chemically processed toners (′CPT″) toners using a black pigment, magenta pigment, yellow pigment or a cyan pigment.

Abrégé

When a media tray is inserted into a printer with the leading edge of the printed page going into the printer first, multiple sheets of media may slide off the media stack (“shingle”) into the paper path if the primary input tray is inserted too aggressively. This may result in double feeds and/or paper jams for the user. Disclosed is a mechanism that is transparent to the user for slow speed tray insertions but provides force feedback to the user indicating tray insertion at too high of speed. If the user inserts the tray below the speed threshold, then the result is a normal tray insertion. If the user inserts the paper tray above the speed threshold, then there is a feedback to the user to slow the tray insertion to an acceptable velocity.
