Systems and methods for managing voice data in network-based instant connect communications. In an instant connect call, instead of immediately playing voice data when it is received, the voice data is buffered on the recipient's device and the recipient is notified of the incoming voice data. The recipient may then play the voice data at a later time before the instant connect call session times out. The recipient may also take the floor and delete the buffered voice data, reject the voice data, or ignore the voice data until the session times out and the buffered voice data is deleted. The recipient can also prevent voice data from being delivered by selecting an answer mode of operation of the recipient's device that enables the recipient to approve senders before voice data is transmitted.

Systems and methods for selectively replaying voice data. Voice data received in a communication session is both buffered by a server such that the buffered data can be played by a recipient device. When input is received from a recipient, the voice data currently being received is no longer played and buffered voice data is replayed to the recipient. While the buffered voice data is replayed, the server continues to buffer any voice data ensure that the recipient device can play all of the voice data in the communication session. By only storing voice data in the buffer, replaying the buffered voice data can catch the real-time voice data. At this point, the recipient device reverts to playing voice data being received while the server continues to buffer the voice data.

A data backup status indicator is displayed on the communication device indicating the current status of the data backup. The user can select the data backup status indicator to obtain additional information about the status of the data backup service.
A multi-factor authentication solution implements a recognizable voice in conjunction with a user address to increase login security and reduce user inconvenience. A user creates an online account, providing an address such as a telephone number or email address to which voice messages may be sent. The user selects a recognizable voice such as the user's own voice or the voice of a famous or well-known figure. When the user attempts to login to the online account, a random passphrase is generated and converted to a voice message employing the user's pre-selected voice and the voice message is sent to the user's address. The user listens to the voice message and if the user recognizes the voice rendering the passphrase the user's login request is granted.
Systems and methods for discovering features of a communication device. The features of a communications device are tracked or monitored. Features that are unused or undiscovered are identified. The undiscovered features are then included as ticker items in an interactive ticker. When a ticker item that corresponds to an undiscovered feature is selected, the user is presented with information or a tutorial that instructs the user about the feature or how to use the feature. The undiscovered features included in the ticker can change based on how the usage of the device's features changes.

System and method for lossless compression of already compressed files
A system and method for losslessly compressing already compressed files, such as JPEG files. The inventive method involves full or partial decompression of the original file, and re-compression using various advanced data compression techniques. Decompression involves decompression using the advanced techniques and re-compression using the original techniques. This method and system saves on data storage space and allows for the reconstruction of an original compressed file for use in applications that require or support the original compressed format.
A method for receiving, storing, and applying an update package to modify an original image stored within non-volatile flash memory devices. More specifically, the present design provides a download agent responsible for communicating with a server to transfer and store the update package; and an update agent responsible for verifying, decompressing and decoding the update package. The present design separates non-essential operating system (OS) components and applications from the core OS, stores non-essential OS components, applications, and download agent as a single image in a read-only file system. This image may be updated by applying an update package created by running a binary differencing engine on two pre-built file system images representing the current and new file systems to modify the stored image. Additionally, the present design applies an update package to the core OS, which includes the update agent.
The present invention reduces the time required to apply an update package for generating a new image from an original image within a non-volatile memory device by effectively reducing the number of flash blocks requiring modification by use of whatever free space is available at the end of the image as required. A set of software development guidelines and an improved firmware development tool chain (i.e. compiler, linker, etc.) are utilized to produce new firmware for the client device. A firmware programmer follows or applies this set of guidelines when developing new features and fixes for distribution via a new firmware image. The improved firmware development tool chain executes on a collection of function blocks, available from the development of the original image, used to create new firmware source code, which when complied and linked yields a new image, prior to the delta or differencing processing.
A service provider interface protocol, when embedded into a network-capable device, can automatically connect the device to a wired or wireless network. This automatic device connectivity can include automatic logging on, automatic authentication and seamless, automatic data upload to, or download from, another location on the network. Configuration parameters for the automatic authentication, upload and download locations and other related device configurations can be stored within the network server-side management system.

Method for reducing binary image update package sizes
A system and method for reducing the update package size used to convert an original image into a new image based on the differences between the two images. From comparison of original and new images, an update package is generated which includes ADD and COPY operations. This design introduces a RELOCATE operation. The update encoder attempts to re-express submitted COPY operations with one or more RELOCATE operations whose total length exceeds that of the original COPY. If this is the case, the RELOCATE operation(s) have progressed further through the images than the original COPY operation, thus producing a smaller update package. Each individual RELOCATE operation includes a number of instructions and a number of data items to be relocated.
