A breast pump according to the present invention comprises a variable pressure generation unit that alternately creates a negative pressure state that is lower than atmospheric pressure, and a pressure that is higher than the negative pressure state, said breast pump being characterized in that the variable pressure generation unit has a power drive unit having a stepping motor that can rotate in both forward and reverse directions, and a negative pressure creation unit that periodically creates the negative pressure state by deforming an elastic body in accordance with a cycle periodicity created by the power drive unit; the negative pressure creation unit is in communication with a breast pump unit; and the stepping motor allows the cycle periodicity of negative pressure creation and the amplitude of the cycle periodicity to be changed at will. The present invention allows not only the intensity of the suction pressure but also the pressure increase/decrease cycle to be set at will, as well as allowing a breast pump that uses power to be made more compact.
