An optical assembly includes a light guide, a unitary base layer having a first major surface and a structured second major surface having first structures and second structures. The first structures have a first coating including a metal, and the second structures have a second coating including a transparent material with an index of refraction greater than the unitary base layer. The first coating on the first structures is sufficiently thick so that a transmission of a light incident on the first major surface through the first coating is less than about 10%. The second coating on the second structures is sufficiently thin so the second coating substantially conforms to the second structures. A cover layer is disposed on the first and second coatings and defines an outermost surface. A distance between the first major surface and the outermost surface is substantially uniform across the plurality of second structures.
An optical stack includes an optical film including first and second layers. Each of the first and second layers has a structured first major surface and an opposite second major surface. The structured first major surfaces of the first and second layers are disposed on and substantially conform to one another.
