Abstract

With inkjet printers, there are cases in which, depending on the type of print medium, areas between formed dots cannot be filled in with ink and complete coating is not possible. When processing image data so as to fill in areas between dots using only discharge and no discharge, the problem of reduced image quality occurs. In the present invention, using RIP processing that is capable of adjusting ejection volume for deep and light colors, image data is generated as one bit long data for each pixel and each color and is output to the printer. Then, in order to adjust solid filling, the present invention makes it possible to vary deep color discharge volumes from discharge/no discharge data by setting light color ink to be ejected in regions of high density and expanding deep color data inside the printer. The present invention limits increases in image processing time in the host PC and makes it possible to obtain favorable solid filling.

An inkjet printer is provided with a cap that prevents the drying of the nozzle of an inkjet head. The cap covers a recording head and is formed from a porous resin. A cap unit is provided with the cap and a spittoon that receives discharged ink. The recording head uses a wiper to wipe the nozzle surface and performs cleaning by discharging ink into the spittoon. After this cleaning, the nozzle surface is covered by the cap. The cap is prevented from becoming dirty with ink because the cap is placed on the nozzle surface when there is no ink adhering to said nozzle surface.

Abstract

Provided is an inkjet printer that makes it possible to keep a nozzle surface clean and in which the discharge of ink having a large amount of air dissolved therein from a recording head is prevented by eliminating a part of an ink flow path in which the proportion of dissolved air is high. The inkjet printer is provided with a wiper that wipes the nozzle surface, a branching path between a sub-tank and a recording head, and a flow path that is formed so as to return ink from the branching path to the sub-tank. Increases in the proportion of dissolved air within the ink flow path are minimized by returning ink to the sub-tank when the ink remains within the ink flow path for a certain length of time or longer and reducing the proportion of dissolved air within the ink.

Abstract

A medium transporting apparatus is used for transporting a label web including a carrier web and labels adhered thereto. A platen roller transports the label web in a transport path. A pressure roller is disposed downstream of the separating member with respect to the transport path, and causes the carrier web to be kinked. The pressure roller urges the carrier web against the platen roller. A support member is mounted on a cover and rotatably supports the pressure roller. The cover is pivoted between an open position and a closed. Immediately after the cover has moved to the closed position, the pressure roller contacts the platen roller and then slides by a predetermined amount on the circumferential surface of the platen roller in a direction away from the separating member. Thus, the carrier web sandwiched between the pressure and platen rollers becomes taut.

Abstract

An information processing system uses an input apparatus to input user information. After authentication of the user information, the input apparatus-transmits control information to an information processing apparatus, indicating which functions of the information processing apparatus the user may use. The control information is independent of the particular method by which authentication is performed. Use of the information processing apparatus can accordingly be controlled by a variety of methods without requiring any user authentication capability to be provided in the information processing apparatus itself, and new authentication methods can be implemented without modification or replacement of existing information processing apparatus.

Abstract

A light-emitting element array has a plurality of three-terminal light-emitting elements such as light-emitting thyristors with anode, cathode, and gate terminals. The anode terminal of each light-emitting element is connected to a driving circuit. The cathode terminal is grounded. The gate terminals of at least some of the three-terminal light-emitting elements are driven from a common buffer, and within this group of three-terminal light-emitting elements, the anode terminals are driven individually. This enables the array of three-terminal light-emitting elements to be driven in essentially the same way as an array of two-terminal light-emitting elements, but without the need for large power transistors between the cathode terminals and ground.
