METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR PREVENTING OXIDATION OF AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
A malleable wax-based antioxidant is provided for use between two electrical connectors. To form the example antioxidant, a wax-base is melted and particles, such as, for example, zinc particles, are provided in suspension with the melted wax. The suspension is then cooled and formed into a shape by, for example, molding, extrusion, die cutting, or other suitable forming method. The antioxidant remains viscose under normal operating temperatures of the electrical connector to avoid oozing and/or running out of the antioxidant, thus better preventing oxidation of the connector. The particles keep the connections running cool, particularly with aluminum to aluminum connections.
An electrical disconnect includes a male housing having an enclosed contact and a female housing similarly having an enclosed contact. The contact in at least one of the housings includes a busbar to electrically couple a plurality of wires. Upon joining the disconnect, the contacts in the two housing engage to form as releasable connection. By including a busbar, multiple conductors in one of the housings may be coupled to a single conductor in the second housing. Additionally, by disconnecting the housing, each load in the circuit may be simultaneously interrupted as desired.

A coaxial cable connector is provided with a generally tubular mandrel. An attachment element and a retainer are associated with the mandrel and a bushing is telescopically mounted on the retainer. The bushing is adapted for axial movement along the retainer to a closed position wherein the bushing biases a first portion of the retainer into sealing engagement with a seating surface on the exterior of the mandrel. A releasable wire connector has a housing and a cap slidably engaging one another and enclosing an electrical contact. The contact has inner and outer flexible fingers disposed opposite wire ports in the housing and cap. The fingers engage conductors inserted into the connector to retain the connectors therein and electrically connect them. The cap carries a release block which will engage some of the fingers and urge them out of engagement with the conductors to allow disengagement of a wire from the connector. One of the fingers may be split into sacrificial and main tines which are arranged so that the sacrificial tine will always be the first to make and the last to break contact with a conductor. Any arcing that may occur will then always be on the sacrificial tine so the main tine will not be degraded by arcing.
