A microparticle filter, textile treatment apparatus, use and method is disclosed. The microparticle filter comprises i) a filter chamber, the filter chamber comprising: an inlet for supplying effluent into the filter chamber and an outlet for filtered effluent to leave the filter chamber; a first set of chamber walls and a second set of chamber walls, wherein the first set of chamber walls and the second set of chamber walls in a first configuration are sealed together so that effluent cannot pass between the first set of chamber walls and the second set of chamber walls, and wherein the first set of chamber walls and the second set of chamber walls in a second configuration provide an opening; ii) a filter cage contained within the filter chamber, wherein the filter cage comprises one or more than one filter medium, the filter medium to filter microparticles from the effluent, and wherein the filter cage is rotatable around an axis, and wherein the filter cage defines an interior volume, and wherein the inlet is arranged to provide effluent to the interior volume of the filter cage and the outlet is arranged to receive filtered effluent from the filter cage; iii) a transfer member rotatable around the axis; iv) an actuator connected to the first set of chamber walls, and one of the filter cage or the transfer member and operable to move between the first configuration and the second configuration; v) a drive unit arranged to rotate the transfer member in at least the second configuration; wherein in the first configuration, the transfer member is located in the interior volume of the filter cage; and wherein in a second configuration, the transfer member is removed from the interior volume of the filter cage along the axis and the transfer member is rotatable to throw transferred filter residue off the transfer member through the opening, and wherein the transfer member comprises a filter residue collector to remove filter residue from the filter medium when the filter is changed from the first configuration from the second configuration.

One method includes the steps of: agitating the at least one soiled substrate in the drum with wash liquor and the multiplicity of solid particles for a first cleaning cycle wherein the wash liquor includes at least one cleaning agent; draining the wash liquor from the cleaning apparatus; and introducing an aqueous non-detergent medium into the cleaning apparatus and agitating the at least one soiled substrate with the multiplicity of solid particles in the drum for a second cleaning cycle. Disclosed is a drum type laundry machine, including a casing, a control panel, an outer drum, an inner drum, a water inlet system, a water drainage system, a driving system, washing balls, a storage chamber disposed on the bottom of the outer drum, a circulation piping system connecting the storage chamber with the inner drum, and an outlet of the circulation pipe system leading to the inner drum and provided on an annular opening of the inner drum. The washing procedure of the laundry process described herein also includes a washing step while the washing balls circulate in the inner and outer drum, and a collecting step of the washing balls. The drum type laundry machine of the present invention can save water and electricity and can reduce pollution.
The invention provides a method for the cleaning of a soiled substrate, the method comprising treating the substrate with a non-polymeric solid particulate cleaning material and wash water, the treatment being carried out in an apparatus comprising a drum comprising perforated side walls and having a capacity of between 5 and 50 liters for each kg of fabric in the washload, wherein the solid particulate cleaning material comprises a multiplicity of non-polymeric particles at a particle to fabric addition level of 0.1:1-10:1 by mass, each of the particles being substantially cylindrical or spherical in shape, and wherein the drum comprising perforated side walls is rotated at a speed which generates G forces in the range of from 0.05 to 900 G. The non-polymeric particles may comprise particles of glass, silica, stone, wood, or any of a variety of metals or ceramic materials. Preferably the solid particulate cleaning material additionally comprises a multiplicity of polymeric particles each of which is substantially cylindrical or spherical in shape. Preferably, at least one detergent is employed in the cleaning process. The invention provides optimum cleaning performance as a result of improved mechanical interaction between substrate and cleaning media and is preferably used for the cleaning of textile fabrics. The method allows for significant reductions in the consumption of detergents, water and energy when compared with the conventional wet cleaning of textile fabrics, and also facilitates reduced washing-related textile fabric damage. The invention also envisages a cleaning composition comprising a solid particulate cleaning composition and at least one additional cleaning agent.

The invention provides a method and formulation for cleaning a soiled substrate, the method comprising the treatment of the moistened substrate with a formulation comprising a multiplicity of polymeric particles, wherein the formulation is free of organic solvents. Preferably, the substrate is wetted so as to achieve a substrate to water ratio of between 1:0.1 to 1:5 w/w. Optionally, the formulation additionally comprises at least one cleaning material and, in this embodiment, it is preferred that the polymeric particles are coated with the at least one cleaning material. Preferably, the cleaning material comprises a surfactant, which most preferably has detergent properties. Most preferably, the substrate comprises a textile fiber. Typically, the polymeric particles comprise particles of nylon, most preferably in the form of nylon chips. The results obtained are very much in line with those observed when carrying out conventional dry cleaning processes and the method provides the significant advantage that the use of solvents, with all the attendant drawbacks in terms of cost and environmental considerations, can be avoided.
