Grape vines may grow on a trellis comprising a series of wires supported by a line of posts, but it is difficult to machine-prune vines after harvest without interference from wires. A trellis having primary posts and secondary posts may support vines in a manner that cane growing from vine's cordons can be readily removed. Between each neighing pair of primary posts there are at least two secondary posts. A cordon wire runs along and is supported by the posts at or adjacent to top. Cordons of vines are connected to, and grow along, wire such that most foliage and grapes forming part of vines grow below wire. Wire is held by posts above ground level in a manner to be non-destructively pulled upwards to free it from posts. This may occur after cordons have been severed from rest of vine and may then be readily stripped from wire.
A trellis is described herein, including a series of upright posts, cross beams supported by the posts in an elevated state, at least one line holder fitted to each beam, each holder having one or more downwardly facing retaining slot or slots, and vine lines connected to the holders such that they are located in and pass through the retaining slots so that the lines run laterally in rows and can be non-destructively removed from the slots by exerting downward pressure on the lines.
A post in combination with a line connector for holding a line in an elevated disposition for supporting vines. The line connector has an arcuate body, an opening into the body, resilient connective edges, a recess, and a line clip. The upper part of the post is within the opening of the line connector. The resilient connective edges of the line connector hold the line connector securely against the post. The line is held by the recess and line clip of the line connector.

Trellis arrangements are used for supporting fruit-bearing plants as they grow. A problem in some orchards or the like is that it can be difficult to install trellis posts in the ground, in particular when the posts are relatively long and difficult to place at the correct angle. The invention discloses a trellis comprising a plurality of supports, each support comprising a shaft embedded in a ground, and at least one connector arm extending upwards at an acute angle with respect to the ground. The trellis is such that for each support, a post is sleeve-fitted to the connector arm so that the post extends upwards at an acute angle but does not touch the ground; the upwardly extending posts collectively support elevated lines running between the posts; and the lines support branches of a fruit bearing plant growing along the lines.

A trellis component includes a tubular portion, a connector adapted to be inserted within an upper end of the tubular portion, at least two support arms, and a crop line, which are arranged such that the connector is within the upper end of the tubular portion, the arms are within and extend outwardly from the connector, and the crop line is supported by the arms in an elevated disposition to in turn support a crop.
A post includes a hollow elongate tubular pipe. The post has an open upper end and an open lower end. The post has an upper portion and a lower ground engaging portion joined to one another. The upper portion is adapted to predominately extend above the ground and the lower ground engaging portion is adapted to be fully inserted into the ground. The upper portion and the lower ground engaging portion are separated by a protruding region immediately adjacent to where the upper portion and lower ground engaging portion join together.
