Abstract

A spin stabilized bullet includes a thin, thermally conductive exterior metal jacket that forms at least one cavity, and a bullet core disposed within the at least one cavity and comprised of at least one or more eutectic metals having thermally conductive characteristics. A ductile combination of the metal jacket and the eutectic metals in the bullet core is structured to facilitate engraving of an exterior of the bullet as expanding propellant gases push the bullet through a rifled barrel, the engraving caused by lands in the barrel, imparting heat at a temperature higher than a melting temperature of the eutectic metals. The portion of the bullet core having the eutectic metals transitions from a solid phase to a molten liquid phase as the heat conducts inward. A portion of the bullet core disposed near a nose of the bullet remains solid when the bullet impacts on a target.

Abstract

A projectile, that can be tracked by optical means, is fitted with a special tracer incorporated into the projectile's trailing edge. The rearward facing special tracer is incorporated into a metal disk which is crimped to the projectile's metal jacket. The special tracer includes micro-prismatic features that reflect light at the incidence angle. Alternatively, the disk incorporates a fluorescent dye that is responsive to a laser emission. External emitted radiation is reflected or re-emitted from the trailing edge of the projectile, allowing for an external electro-optic tracking device to identify the position of the projectile in flight.

Abstract

An ammunition cartridge comprised of a projectile inserted in, and mechanically connected to, a metal cartridge case assembly having a propulsion chamber and a base, and an energetic propellant disposed in the propulsion chamber, includes a base plug in which is mounted an igniter with an energetic primer. During manufacture of the cartridge, a fusible support ring is incorporated into a metal cavity. The cartridge base includes a cavity allowing the fusible material to solidify at ambient temperatures. When exposed to heat from an external fire, the fusible support plug liquefies losing its strength and subsequently, when a propellant or primer off-gasses or auto-ignites the pressure from the reaction ejects a metal plug or lid from the cartridge case base, creating a void that allows the propellant and primer to combust in an unconfined space.

Abstract

A warhead assembly, comprising a cylindrical or conical metal body, having an inner wall with a plurality of channels or grooves extending parallel to a central longitudinal axis. Preformed fragments are inserted in the channels or grooves and a liner with an explosive fill is positioned within the metal body, retaining the preformed fragments in place. The warhead assembly on detonation produces a bimodal distribution of fragments with adequate mass and velocity with optimized mixed fragmentation that defeats or otherwise incapacitates a target or set of targets.
