Abstract

Method and system that operates on a server include a time and expense management interface for capturing time and expense reporting. The time and expense reporting is for utility distribution systems, such as electrical power distribution and/or transmission systems, cellular, telecommunications, cable TV, water and sewer, natural gas, and others. These utility distribution systems include a large number of devices or objects that are distributed across a big geographic area. In one example, the authorization to submit the invoice for portions of the mobilization work order that have completed the approval process includes only authorization to submit the invoice for those portions of the mobilization work order i) not already paid or ii) that have been previously submitted and completed the approval process. The invention helps to document time and expense for government agencies, such as public utility commissions. This documentation maybe used with setting special charges on customer invoices.

Abstract

A system for generating power includes a turbine generator for generating alternating current (AC) power and a power electronics module that provides a first signal to the turbine generator to switch an operating mode of the turbine generator from an off mode to a startup mode. The first signal is variable frequency power. The system includes a controller that provides a second signal that causes the turbine generator to switch from a normal operating mode to a coast down mode. In the startup mode, the turbine generator accelerates to a full rotational rate and in the coast down mode, the turbine generator decelerates from the full rotational rate to a stop over an interval of time. The system includes a power converter that converts rotational inertia by the turbine generator into direct current (DC) power responsive to the turbine generator operating in the coast down mode.

Abstract

A computer-implemented method for controlling energy consumption in an extended reality (XR) space involves accessing an image of a real-world space and using image recognition to identify an energy-related object. The method stores the object's 3D coordinates and retrieves specific energy information, including real-time or historical consumption data measured by a device, independent of generic family or model data. Using the stored coordinates, the method generates a virtual or mixed reality image by overlaying a computer-generated indicator near the object. When a user selects the indicator, the method displays the specific energy information within the XR environment. The method also enables the user to adjust the object's energy consumption via a wired or wireless communication interface, allowing real-time control. This approach integrates image recognition, data visualization, and remote control to streamline energy management within an XR environment.

Abstract

Systems and methods for managing an inspection path of an unmanned inspection device. The method begins with generating a randomized time for a UAV inspection path using a randomizing time function. Next, predicted inspection path information is accessed for the randomized time of the UAV inspection path. An inspection path is generated for the randomized time based on the predicted inspection path information accessed. A UAV is programmed to traverse the inspection path. Before the UAV departs, the system confirms the current predicted inspection path information compared to one or more of the predicted inspection path information. In response, the current predicted inspection path information is with a threshold level of the predicted inspection path information or the predicted inspection path was last inspected more than a given time period, initiating operation of the UAV to traverse the inspection path, and otherwise, generating a new randomized time and new inspection path.

Abstract

Systems and methods to generate synthetic images for use in a machine learning training set. The process begins with accessing a database of real-world 3-D images of equipment in a power grid, the 3-D images of equipment include 3-D measurements to create a dimensionally accurate and photorealistic model of the equipment. Optionally, the 3-D images could be aged or weathered using imaging editing software. Next, a database of real-world photographs of scenes in which the equipment is installed is accessed. Optionally, the identical scenes can be captured at different times of day, different times of the year, and at different perspectives. Next, using image editing software, the 3-D images of equipment is inserted into at least one of the scenes to form a synthetic image based on a combination of the equipment and the scene in which each of the equipment and the scene were previously captured independently of each other.

Abstract

An emergency preparedness alert notification system includes a central siren control system (CSCS) (102) remotely located from a multiplicity of rotating siren systems (104, 106, 108) distributed over diverse wide geographic regions, and which can be automatically tested by the CSCS. The testing method can be automatically repeated to accurately and timely capture test result data, and alarm conditions, from each of the multiplicity of remotely located at least one rotating siren system. Individual components of each rotating siren system are diagnosed and the test results, including any alarm conditions, can be automatically reported via wirelessly transmitted messages 702 to the CSCS. Technical and repair personnel can be dispatched to a particular siren site based on the automatic testing results reported at the CSCS. The retrofittable system can predict a future occurrence of a failure of a particular component of a rotating siren system.

Abstract

A system for generating a preventative maintenance change request (PMCR) that includes a remote utility controller that receives sensor data of a component of a utility asset generates an alert in response to a trend of the sensor data. The system further includes a data cluster analyzer that receives the alert and identifies a group of components similarly situated to the component by matching clustering data of the component with clustering data of the group of components. The data cluster analyzer generates a preventative maintenance opportunity that recommends changing preventative maintenance schedules for the group of components. The system also includes a data assimilator that assimilates the preventative maintenance schedule for the group of components based on assimilation data including failure history of each component of the group of components. Furthermore, the data assimilator generates the PMCR including the assimilated preventative maintenance schedule for the group of components.

Abstract

A system for generating a preventative maintenance change request (PMCR) that indudes a remote utility controller that receives sensor data of a component of a utility asset generates an alert in response to a trend of the sensor data. The system further includes a data duster analyzer that receives the alert and identifies a group of components similarly situated to the component by matching clustering data of the component with clustering data of the group of components. The data duster analyzer generates a preventative maintenance opportunity that recommends changing preventative maintenance schedules for the group of components. The system also includes a data assimilator that assimilates the preventative maintenance schedule for the group of components based on assimilation data including failure history of each component of the group of components. Furthermore, the data assimilator generates the PMCR including the assimilated preventative maintenance schedule for the group of components.

Abstract

A system for predicting vegetation encroachment into a utility asset that includes a remote sensing controller that stores a set of 3D data characterizing a utility asset and vegetation in a digital twin database. The digital twin database stores 3D data characterizing the utility asset and vegetation over time. The system further includes a biomass engine that classifies instances of vegetation characterized by the set 3D data stored in the digital twin database as a particular type of vegetation. The biomass engine further generates a growth curve for each instance of vegetation based on the set of 3D data stored in the digital twin database and the particular type of vegetation. Additionally, the biomass engine predicts future growth for each instance of vegetation based on the growth curve and determines if and when each instance of vegetation will exceed an encroachment threshold associated with the utility asset.

Abstract

Systems and methods for training a machine learning based natural language processor to process specialized language terms. A training corpus of labeled specialized language terms associated with a specialized subject area is assembled. A generated database query corresponding to a question comprising at least one specialized language term within the set of labeled specialized language terms is created with a machine learning based natural language processing process. A cost function is determined based on differences between the generated database query and contents in a knowledge graph mapping terms describing characteristics of entities associated with the specialized subject area. The natural language processing process is refined based on feeding back the cost function to create a refined natural language process. Received queries are processed with the refined natural language process to create database queries directed to answering questions associated with the received query, and the answer is presented.

Abstract

A storm damage response system includes a storm ensemble database that stores ensemble forecast models associated with potential storm paths of a storm across a geographic area and an inventory database that stores inventory data associated with location and characteristics of power-providing equipment in the geographic area. A storm damage model algorithm generates a storm response plan comprising an operational procedure for repairing or maintaining power transmission and distribution electric systems to mitigate storm damage impact based on generating a probabilistic model for each of the ensemble forecast models based on the inventory data and calculating a statistical impact value associated with the probabilistic model based on an aggregate of iterative probabilistic simulations for the respective ensemble forecast model. The storm response plan can be generated based on the relative statistical impact value of the probabilistic model of each of the ensemble forecast models.

Abstract

A power grid monitoring system for determining a cause of a lateral trouble ticket. The power grid monitoring system can determine a cause of a lateral trouble ticket in response to receiving the lateral trouble ticket. The power grid monitoring system associates a set of smart meters with a first, penultimate and last transformer downstream from a given lateral. The power grid monitoring system pings each smart meter in the set of smart meters to indicate a state of the first, penultimate and last transformers of the given lateral. Accordingly, the power monitoring system determines a cause of a lateral trouble ticket associated with the given lateral based on results of the pings to the set of smart meters associated with the first, last and penultimate transformers. The power grid monitoring system can further augment the lateral trouble ticket with information characterizing the cause of the lateral trouble ticket.

Abstract

Systems and methods for generating a natural language domain corpus to train a machine learning natural language understanding process. A base utterance expressing an intent and an intent profile indicating at least one of categories, keywords, concepts, sentiment, entities, or emotion of the intent are received. Machine translation translates the base utterance into a plurality of foreign language utterances and back into respective utterances in the target natural language to create a normalized utterance set. Analysis of each utterance in the normalized utterance set determines respective meta information for each such utterance. Comparison of the meta information to the intent profile determines a highest ranking matching utterance within the normalized utterance set. A set of natural language data to train a machine learning natural language understating process is created based on further natural language translations of the highest ranking matching utterance.

A system for monitoring power flow at a premises can include a smart meter that measures coarse power flow data for the premises. The coarse power flow data characterizes power consumption and/or power generation. The system can also include a power data recorder having a first transceiver that communicates with the smart meter via a first protocol. The power data recorder can have a second transceiver that communicates with a node on a data mesh network via a second protocol. The smart meter transmits the coarse power flow data to a node on a meter mesh network in response to polling for the coarse power flow data, and the smart meter transmits the coarse power flow data to the power data recorder via the first protocol in response to detecting a fault condition or after a time interval has expired. The power data recorder encapsulates the coarse power flow data.

Abstract

In some examples, a document can be received and parsed to identify sentences of the document. A plurality of domain natural language classifiers (NLCs) trained based on domain training data associated with a respective domain of a plurality of domains can be programmed to classify each identified sentence to determine a sentence confidence score for each identified sentence. A plurality of document confidence scores for the document can be determined based on sentence confidence scores determined by the plurality of domain NLCs. Each document confidence score can characterize a relevance of the document to the respective domain of the plurality of domains. Document similarity data identifying at least one document among documents associated with a corresponding domain of the plurality of domains can be generated based on an evaluation of the document confidence scores for the given document and document confidence scores for the documents associated with the corresponding domain.

Abstract

Systems and methods to process many power line-down reports. A number of power line-down reports are received from different devices operated by users that specify the location of its device. Based on locations of devices sending the reports, a related set of power line-down reports is determined that likely report a particular power line-down condition. Based on those locations and power line location information, a location of the particular power line-down condition is determined that is a location of a power line that is closest to all locations in the related reports. Based on the related set of reports, a consolidated power line-down report is created with data associated with the particular power line-down condition. The consolidated power line-down report is reported to a power grid trouble report system.

Abstract

An information processing system validates authorization of a removable storage device for accessing the system. For example, the system detects a removable storage device. A first content hash and a first set of device verification data are obtained from a validation token stored on the storage device. A second content hash is obtained based on hashing content currently stored on the storage device. A second set of device verification data is obtained from the storage device. The system denies the storage device access to the system based on at least one of the first and second content hashes failing to match and the first and second sets of device verification data failing to match. The system grants the storage device access to the system based on the first and second content hashes matching and the first and second sets of device verification data matching.

Abstract

Systems and methods to provide composite fault maps. A first event report is received from a system indicating a first set of location probability distributions of a first event. A second event report is received from a second system that is a different type than the first system indicating a second set of location probability distributions of a second event that is different from the first event. Based upon data in the received reports, the first event is determined to be associated with the second event. A composite fault map is determined that includes composite location likelihood values for the first event and the second event, the composite fault map being determined based on assembling the first set of location probability distributions and the second set of location probability distributions. The the composite fault map is provided to a different process.

Abstract

One example includes a power relay system. The system includes a circuit breaker configured, when triggered, to provide an open circuit in a power line configured to conduct a current between a power grid point-of-interconnect (POI) and a power generator system. The system also includes a power controller configured to monitor the current and to generate a dynamic current threshold based on the current, the power controller being further configured to compare the current with the dynamic current threshold and to trigger the circuit breaker based on a difference of the current relative to the dynamic current threshold to set an arc flash incident energy level of the power generator system to less than or equal to a predetermined safety level.

Abstract

A system and method for adjusting estimated number of customers affected by an electrical power distribution network incident. Incident reports indicating a number of affected customers and an incident definition for incidents occurring over an accumulation time are accumulated, where each incident report. For each incident report, a signature is determined based on characterizing respective incidents and includes respective characteristics of the incidents associated with each incident report. A subject incident report is received subsequent to the accumulation time. A signature is determined for the subject incident report. Similar incident reports that have signatures similar to the subject incident are identified. A composite estimated number of affected customers for the subject incident is determined based on the associated numbers of affected customers for each similar incident report. An initial estimate of customers affected by the subject incident is adjusted based on the composite estimated number of affected customers.
