Abstract

A core rod assembly (10) for blow molding includes a core rod head (16), a first fluid pathway (A1) extending along a first length of the core rod head (16), and a second fluid pathway (A2) extending along a second length of the core rod head (16). The first and second fluid pathways (A1, A2) may be fluidly isolated from each other and provide selective temperature control of respective first and second portions of the core rod assembly (10) during the blow molding process. At least a portion of the first fluid pathway (A1) may be longitudinally offset from the second fluid pathway (A2) so as to define respective first and second temperature zones (zone 1, zone 2) along the respective first and second portions of the core rod assembly (10).

Abstract

A capillary transfer pipette includes a draw tube having a distal end defining a draw tube opening through which liquid is drawn via capillary action, a proximal end, and a lumen. A squeeze bulb is arranged proximally of the draw tube and defines a fluid chamber in fluid communication with the lumen, the squeeze bulb being compressible to dispense drawn liquid from the draw tube. An air vent hole is formed in at least one of the draw tube or the squeeze bulb, and is configured to vent air to facilitate drawing of liquid through the draw tube opening via capillary action. A volume indicating element may be provided on the draw tube, and the air vent hole may be located proximally of the volume indicating element. The lumen may be formed with a first diameter at the proximal end and a differing second diameter at the distal end. Methods of collecting liquid with, and of making, a capillary transfer pipette are also disclosed.

Abstract

A closure (10, 100, 150) for a labware device (20). The labware device (20) defines an interior chamber (25) having at least one opening (92). The closure (10, 100, 150) includes a closure body (12, 102) configured to be mounted to the labware device (20) and in fluid communication with the opening (92). A vent valve (14, 122) is mounted for movement relative to the closure body (12, 102). The vent valve (14, 122), with the closure body (12, 102), defines a space (72, 120) that defines a path between the closure body (12, 102) and the vent valve (14, 122) for gas exchange between the interior chamber (25) and the exterior of the labware device (20). A filter (50) is positioned within the space (72, 120) and is configured to filter contaminants from gas entering the interior chamber (25) via the path.

A closure (12) for attachment to a centrifuge bottle (14). The closure (12) comprises an end wall (20) and a sidewall (22) extending from the end wall (20). The sidewall (20) comprises a first terminal end (26), a second terminal end (32), a first transition surface (36), and a second transition surface (38). The first terminal end (26) has a first outer peripheral boundary (28) at a first radial distance (R1 ) from an axial centerline (24). The second terminal end (32) has a second outer peripheral boundary (34) at a second radial distance (R2) from the axial centerline (24). The second radial distance (R2) is less than the first radial distance (R1 ). The first transition surface (36) extends between the first outer peripheral boundary (28) and the second transition surface (38). The second transition surface (38) extends between the first transition surface (36) and the second outer peripheral boundary (34).

Abstract

A device for culturing cells or tissue includes a culture dish with a bottom wall and at least one sidewall to define an interior cavity, at least one channel formed on the bottom wall to minimize the effect of fluid movement on biologics in the dish and, optionally, at least one barrier wall for partitioning the interior cavity into a plurality of compartments. The barrier wall maintains a biologic in one compartment separate from a biologic in another compartment. The barrier wall may also provide fluid communication between compartments.

Abstract

A surface supporting growth of cells in culture, the surface prepare to provide hydrophilic moieties exposed thereon for enhancing the attachment of biological materials. The surface contains the hydrophilic moiety as part of an amphipathic molecule also having a hydrophobic region that is anchored or embedded within a polymer substrate, and oriented such that the hydrophilic moieties are exposed on the outer surface of the substrate. In one embodiment the surface is customized to provide qualitative and quantitative moieties to enhance particular cell growth. In one embodiment, the surface is provided on a culture apparatus such as a dish or plate.

Abstract

A container (82, 130, 150, 282, 482) for a flexible bag of liquid (80) that supports the bag during transportation, storage and use in dispensing of the liquid. The container is made from two generally similar pans (20, 132, 144, 152, 154, 162) that form lower and upper parts of the container. Each pan includes a plurality of generally similar multiple projections (50-54, 250-254, 450-454) that function to support the container on a surface as well as in a stable stacked formation.

Abstract

A closure for a liquid container includes a spout and a loop member extending upwardly from an end wall of the closure. The loop may be sized to receive a user's finger or attachment hardware such as a clip, hook or strap extending through the loop. A flip cap is supported for rotational movement on the loop and is movable between a closed position in which the spout is covered and an open position in which the spout is exposed. The flip cap includes a plug seal that is configured to engage and seal with a top edge of the spout when the cap is moved to the closed position.
