Abstract
A heat resistant structure for enclosing a battery is presented. The structure includes a heat resistant fiber layer that provides insulation and structural resistance against a battery failure leading to high temperatures, for instance, in a thermal runaway event. The heat resistant fiber layer may comprise a polycrystalline aluminosilicate fiber.
A bonding material is described that is well suited to bonding polymer films, such as polyester films, to other substrates. In one embodiment, for instance, the bonding material can be used to bond a polyester film to a polypropylene article. The bonding material generally comprises an adhesive agent combined with a cross-linking agent. The adhesive agent may comprise a carboxylic acid modified polypropylene homopolymer, copolymer or ionomer. In one embodiment, the adhesive agent comprises a polypropylene modified by an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride. The cross-linking agent, on the other hand, may comprise an oxazoline polymer.

The present invention is a lightweight archery arrow having an arrow shaft with internal bracing, an arrow tip, and a nock. The arrow shaft with internal bracing is a cylindrical tube having a plurality of ribs formed along the length of the cylindrical tube. The ribs increase the bending stiffness of the cylindrical tube without adding additional thickness and weight. Due to the increased bending stiffness of the cylindrical tube provided by the ribs the wall thickness of the cylindrical tube may be reduced while still maintaining the bending stiffness comparable to that of an arrow shaft having a thicker wall. The decrease in wall thickness and the reduction of material reduces the weight of the arrow shaft providing an arrow shaft with an exterior diameter and bending stiffness comparable to that of a standard arrow shaft, but being lighter in weight.

Reinforcement is used in the manufacture of shafts having multiple layers with multiple types of material in various combinations for the arrows, crossbow bolts, and sporting goods of the present invention. The reinforced shaft is a cylindrical tube made of a base material with a reinforcing layer applied to the cylindrical tube. In one embodiment, the reinforced shaft is a carbon fiber blank with a steel mesh used as the reinforcing layer. The reinforcing layer applied over the carbon fiber blank increases the overall strength of the shaft.
