According to the present invention there is provided a method of treating timber with a creosote-containing preservative formulation adapted for use at substantially ambient temperature. The formulation comprises: creosote; one or more surfactants such that when diluted with a predetermined quantity of water, the creosote is present as an oil-in-water macroemulsion or microemulsion; and optionally, an anti-foaming agent and/or a fire retardant. It is found empirically that the inventive concentrate allows for the use of creosote, a known-effective biocide, without many of the drawbacks inherent in such use.
According to the present invention there is provided the use of one or more low aromatic or substantially low aromatic solvents as a carrier, for efficacious use within a preservative formulation for treating wood or other cellulosic species. The invention also provides for a wood preservative formulation comprising such a carrier. In an embodiment, the carrier is selected from the commercially-available range of Exxsol® D and Isopar® fluids.

Provided herein a wood preservative formulation comprising: a non- aqueous carrier; one or more anti-fungal preservative compounds; and one or more tertiary amine compounds. It is found that the tertiary amine component potentiates the efficacy of the fungicidal component. On the basis of several laboratory decay tests, it has been shown that C14-C18 alkyldimethylamines potentiate anti-fungal activity of azoles in non-aqueous, solvent-based formulations without the addition of organic acids.

A METHOD AND FORMULATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF TIMBER

A01N 25/02 - Biocides, pest repellants or attractants, or plant growth regulators, characterised by their forms, or by their non-active ingredients or by their methods of applicationSubstances for reducing the noxious effect of the active ingredients to organisms other than pests containing liquids as carriers, diluents or solvents
A01N 27/00 - Biocides, pest repellants or attractants, or plant growth regulators containing hydrocarbons
According to the present invention there is provided a carrier formulation adapted to operatively support a preservative or preservative mixture within a material for treating wood, said carrier formulation comprising water and one or more water-miscible, water-soluble or water-emulsifiable compounds wherein said carrier formulation provides for preservative penetration and substantial preservative retention within the treated wood; and wherein the treated wood requires relatively little post-treatment drying. The carrier formulation provides for substantially complete or envelope penetration of the preservative within the treated wood.

According to the present invention there is provided a preservative formulation for use in treating wood or other cellulosic formulations, said formulation comprising: at least one biocidal metal compound; at least one organic compound; and a carrier. Preferably, the preservative formulation is copper/(tebuconazole/propiconazole) in a ratio of about 1:3 w/w; the carrier is preferably aqueous or spirit-based.
According to the present invention there is provided a carrier formulation adapted to operatively support a preservative or preservative mixture within a material for treating wood, said carrier formulation comprising water and one or more water-miscible, water-soluble or water-emulsifiable compounds wherein said carrier formulation provides for preservative penetration and substantial preservative retention within the treated wood; and wherein the treated wood requires relatively little post- treatment drying. The carrier formulation provides for substantially complete or envelope penetration of the preservative within the treated wood.
According to the present invention there is provided a carrier composition for migration and/or redistribution of a preservative formulation within wood or engineered wood products, said carrier system comprising a drying oil and/or a semi-drying oil and an extender. There is also provided a preservative formulation comprising such a carrier composition and a method of treating wood comprising the step of applying such a preservative formulation to the wood or engineered wood product.
