Abstract

A process for treating a yarn or textile that may include synthetic fibers selected from: polyamide fibers, polyester fibers, and combinations thereof; and elastomeric fibers. The process may include: (i) placing the yarn or textile in contact with a solvent including caprolactam to obtain a two-phase system including: (a) a liquid phase, including an elastomeric polymer dissolved in the solvent, and (b) a solid phase, including the synthetic fibers; (ii) separating the solid phase (b) from the liquid phase (a) to recover the synthetic fibers; (iii) coagulating the elastomeric polymer in the liquid phase leaving step (ii); and (iv) separating the coagulated elastomeric polymer from the liquid phase (a). The elastomeric fibers may include fibers of an aromatic elastomeric thermoplastic polyurethane that includes a reaction product of components including at least one polyol and at least one aromatic polyisocyanate.

Abstract

A new process for the production of epsilon caprolactam (CPL) from 6-aminocaproic acid (6-ACA) can be obtained either from traditional petro chemical processes or can be obtained from biochemical processes. With the proposed process, the reaction time for conversion of 6-aminocaproic acid to the Nylon 6 monomer is shorter and significant energy savings are possible which is advantageous for industrial scale production. The conversion of 6-aminocaproic acid to the Nylon 6 monomer runs at atmospheric pressure and in the final product epsilon caprolactam with no oligomers formation of significance is obtained.

Abstract

The present invention refers to a new process for the production of epsilon caprolactam (CPL) from 6-aminocaproic acid (6-ACA) which can be obtained either from traditional petro chemical processes or which can be obtained from biochemical processes. With the proposed process the reaction time for conversion of 6-aminocaproic acid to the Nylon 6 monomer is shorter and significant energy savings are possible which is advantageous for industrial scale production. The conversion of 6-aminocaproic acid to the Nylon 6 monomer runs at atmospheric pressure and in the final product epsilon caprolactam with no oligomers formation of significance is obtained.

Abstract

The invention relates to heavy metal free, copper free antifouling coating compositions for protection of fishing nets for controlling and preventing of biofouling from algae, fungi, and bacteria on wetted surface of the netting. Provided is a method of the microencapsulation process of organic biocide, in particular 4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone (DCOIT) which is incorporated into a polymeric microcapsule with a porous wall enabling a controlled and prolonged release of biocide from the microcapsule. Water based coating compositions containing biocide microcapsules are provided as well.

Abstract

A method of recycling polyamide fibers including polyamide 6 and polyamide 6.6, from elastomeric fabrics comprising polyamide and spandex. More particularly, the type of material recycled are elastomeric fabrics (e.g. warp knitted, circular knitted, woven fabric, etc.) and elastomeric clothing articles (e.g. sportswear, swimwear, lingerie, etc.) containing spandex fibers. Spandex fibers are removed from the elastomeric fabric by a process comprised of: controlled thermal degradation of spandex, controlled washing treatment for removal of spandex by using a suitable and sustainable solvent, preferably ethanol and the final step to remove excess solvent from the polyamide fibers. In addition to the recycling of polyamide fibers, the solvent and spandex can be recycled as well.
