METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE PROXIMAL AND DISTAL ENDS OF AN INTERLACED DEVICE BEFORE BEING POSITIONED IN A VASCULAR STRUCTURE AND COMPUTER PROGRAMS THEREOF
A method and computer program for calculating proximal and distal ends of an interlaced device before being positioned in a vascular structure are proposed. The method comprises receiving a three-dimensional image of a vascular structure in which an interlaced device with a singularity at a proximal and/or distal end will be positioned. A central line of said structure which defines a direction in which the interlaced device is to be deployed is traced. A point Pd on the traced central line and the local morphology of the vessel are defined, wherein point Pd indicates the point where the distal end of the interlaced device will start to be deployed. A proximal point Pp is calculated using the distal point Pd and the local morphology of the vessel, both having been defined. The proximal and distal ends are calculated depending on if the singularity is at the proximal and/or distal ends.

The present invention describes a device and system for simulating normal and disease state cardiovascular functioning, including an anatomically accurate left cardiac simulator for training and medical device testing. The system and device uses pneumatically pressurized chambers to generate ventricle and atrium contractions. In conjunction with the interaction of synthetic valves which simulate mitral and aortic valves, the system is designed to generate pumping action that produces accurate volume fractions and pressure gradients of pulsatile flow, duplicating that of a human heart. Through the use of a control unit and sensors, one or more parameters such as flow rates, fluidic pressure, and heart rate may be automatically controlled, using feedback loop mechanisms to adjust parameters of the hydraulic system simulate a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions including normal heart function, severely diseased or injured heart conditions, and compressed vasculature, such as hardening of the arteries.
The present invention describes a device and system for simulating normal and disease state cardiac functioning, including an anatomically accurate left cardiac simulator for training and medical device testing. In conjunction with the interaction of synthetic mitral and aortic valves, the system is designed to generate pumping action that produces accurate volume fractions and pressure gradients of pulsatile flow, duplicating that of a human heart. Through the use of a remote handheld electronic controller and manual adjustments from a main control panel, the air pressure level, fluidic pressure, and heart rate is controlled to induce contractions that simulate a wide variety of heart conditions ranging from normal heart function to severely diseased or injured heart conditions.

A portable medical simulation system and method employs an artificial patient with a built-in haptic interface device, with up to four carriages for engaging different diameter catheters. A catheter stabilizer between each carriage expands and contracts in an accordion fashion as the carriages move in relation to each other, preventing the catheter from bending and bowing. A contrast display visual effect derived from a particle emitter software tool simulates the release of radiopaque dye within a simulated vasculature system for display on a monitor. A computer software based system is used for generating haptic effects on the catheter through control signals passed to each of the carriage motors controlling translation movement of the catheter and magnetic particle brakes controlling rotational movement of the catheter.
A visual effect creation system and method is software designed for creating, maintaining, and displaying real-time 3D visual effects. There are two parts to the software. The first part is the creation and maintenance tool and the second part is a real-time display module. The creation and maintenance tool contains the real-time display module which greatly aids the creation phase. The real-time display module is also designed to integrate the 3D visual effect created with the creation and maintenance tool into the platform of the final product. With the creation and maintenance tool the user can create individual and modular 3D visual effects, which can later be incorporated into other effects or used as a stand-alone 3D visual effect. The data structure for each 3D visual effect is based on a hierarchical node design (parent-child relationship) which allows for inheritance of specific attributes from the parent to the child.

The representation of surface area parts of the virtual organ to be treated are covered with a graphical identification marker. The computer system includes a table stored in memory comprising situations arising within the medical procedure predefined through positions of the instrument(s), positions of the organ(s), the logical sequence of steps to be executed within the medical procedure, different aspect values for the graphical identification markers and assessment values for the situation. Upon interaction of the user with the organ and the instrument, graphical identification markers change their aspect according to the stored value in the table for the predefined situation and the corresponding assessment value is stored in a history log table within the computer system.
