A cotton harvester for harvesting and baling cotton bolls into a cylindrical bale comprises a cotton picker/stripper for stripping cotton bolls from cotton plants, and a continuous round baler for compressing, rotating and forming the cotton bolls into a round bale cylinder from which round bales are severed. The baler comprises a conical bale chamber and a cylindrical bale chamber. The cotton bolls are continuously blown through the conduit from the picker/stripper into the conical bale chamber and a forward part of the cylindrical bale chamber through a roll gap between spaced apart pairs of frustoconical rolls and cylindrical rolls, forming the conical and cylindrical bale chambers, and the compressed rotating round bale cylinder of cotton bolls protrudes axially through the cylindrical bale chamber. Prior to exiting the cylindrical bale chamber the rotating round bale cylinder is circumferentially wrapped with wrapping material.
A continuous round baler forms a cylindrically-shaped bale by spiral, coiled layers created by a conical portion of a bale-forming chamber and protruded upwardly from a cylindrical portion of the bale-forming chamber. The bale is circumferentially supported by netting applied to the bale in the cylindrical portion. A rotary feed table receives crop from the field and feeds the crop into the conical portion. The bale forming process can be interrupted if an insufficient volume of crop is collected on the rotary feed table. The netting material is provided on short rolls to facilitate loading onto the machine. A cutoff mechanism is coupled to the growth of the bale from the cylindrical portion to sever the bale at a predetermined length with end surfaces that are perpendicular to the axis of the bale. A bale density mechanism supports the distal end of the bale as the bale protrudes upwardly.

A microprocessor (75) reads signals from the load sensors (59) and determines the uniformity or non-uniformity of the density of the bale across the axial length thereof from the signals read from the load sensors (59). An output signal from the microprocessor (75) is applied to a visual display device (77) which presents a display screen (78) to a driver indicating the direction of travel or a change in direction of travel of the baler (1) required to maintain uniform density or to correct for non-uniformity of the density of the bale by appropriately displaying a central cross sign (80), or arrows (83) in respective sections (81) of an area (79) of the screen (78).

A continuously operating round baler (10) forms axially extending round bales of crop material. A rotary feed table (20) transfers crop material elevated by a pick-up mechanism (19) in a longitudinal direction and in turn a transverse direction to an infeed apparatus (200). The infeed apparatus (200) feeds the crop material into a conical bale chamber (26) to form a conical core that protrudes into a cylindrical bale chamber (28) into which crop material is also fed to wrap around the core to create an axially extending round bale with a diameter larger than the protruding diameter of the conical core. Netting material is wrapped around the axially formed round bale in the cylindrical bale chamber (28) towards an upstream end thereof. A severance mechanism (80) severs a desired length of round bale after protruding from the cylindrical bale chamber (28). A drop assist apparatus (145) receives the severed round bale and lowers the severed bale to the ground. The cylindrical bale chamber (28) is formed to be selectively configured in a selected diameter size for the round bale.

A conveying device for conveying crop material from a pick-up mechanism to a baler comprises a conveying channel having a base comprising an upstream base part and a downstream base part. The downstream end of the upstream base part is supported on a pair of first resilient mounting members and the upstream end of the downstream base part is supported on a pair of second resilient support members. This results in downward displacement of the upstream base part and the downstream base part to permit crop material to pass through the conveying channel.

A cutoff mechanism is coupled to the growth of the bale from the cylindrical portion to sever the bale at a predetermined length with end surfaces that are perpendicular to the axis of the bale. A bale density mechanism supports the distal end of the bale as the bale protrudes upwardly.
A trailer (1) for round bales of fodder material comprising a bed (19) and a pick-up mechanism (35) for transferring bales from the ground onto the bed (19). A lifting mechanism (38) adjacent the front end (10) of the bed (19) is provided with first and second receiving elements (39,40) for receiving four bales sequentially from the pick-up mechanism (35). The lifting mechanism (38) is urgeable by a main drive ram (60) from a first state adjacent the front end (10) of the bed (19) in a rearward direction for transferring four bales on the lifting mechanism (38) to an intermediate framework (26) of the bed (19). The next four bales on the lifting mechanism (38) urge the bales already on the intermediate framework (26) onto the rear framework (27) as those bales on the lifting mechanism (38) are being urged to the intermediate framework (26), and so on until the trailer has been loaded with sixteen bales. The rear framework (27) is pivotally coupled to the chassis (3) from a hauling state to a discharge state for discharging the bales onto the ground with the longitudinal central geometrical axis of the bales extending vertically.

A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING CIRCUMFERENTIAL WRAPPING OF A CYLINDRICAL BALE IN A BALE FORMING CHAMBER OF A BALER, AND A BALER AND A METHOD FOR PRODUCING A CIRCUMFERENTIALLY WRAPPED BALE
A fixed chamber baler (1) having a bale forming chamber (12) within which a bale (2) of silage is formed and circumferentially wrapped with wrapping film (3) comprises a system for controlling the degree of stretch in the feed direction of the wrapping film (3) with which the bale (2) is wrapped. The system comprises a first rotary encoder (51) for monitoring the rotational speed of a bale rotating roller (18e) of the baler (1), and a second rotary encoder (54) for monitoring the rotational speed of a tensioning roller (32) for tensioning the wrapping film (3). A microprocessor (56) from signals read from the first and second rotary encoders (51,54) computes the ratio of the difference of the linear speeds of the wrapping film (3) adjacent the rotating bale (2) and the tensioning roller (32) to the linear speed of the wrapping film (3) adjacent the tensioning roller (32), which is the value of the degree of stretch being induced in the wrapping film (3) as it is being wrapped onto the bale (2). A torsional load applied to the tensioning roller (32) is varied for varying the rotational speed of the tensioning roller (32) until the degree of stretch with which the wrapping film (3) is being applied to the rotating bale (2) equals a predefined degree of stretch stored in the microprocessor (56).
