Abstract

A patch panel support (PPS) and method of assembly of data center electronic equipment racks is provided that allows the patch panels that are normally mounted in the lower frame of the equipment rack—where the electronic equipment is housed—to be mounted in the upper frame by means of a frame plate connectable to cable trays installed in the upper frame. The PPS further includes a mounting mechanism for mounting one patch panel to the frame plate over each of the one or more cable trays. The resulting reconfiguration of the equipment rack allows the components in the upper frame of the equipment rack to be pre-assembled off-site without the constraints imposed by on-site construction. Additionally, the PPS frees up space in the lower frame of the rack for additional electronic equipment by relocating the patch panels to the upper frame.

Abstract

A power source emulator is provided for testing programmable switchgear that switches to an alternative three-phase power source upon sensing a failure of a grid source. The emulator provides three simulated three-phase power sources for testing switchgear. Each source is identical in voltage and phase to the current normally distributed by the switchgear but has less than 1% of the amperage. Each power source includes a single three-phase contactor for simultaneously controlling all three phases of the power source, and three solid-state relays for controlling each of the three phases of the power source. A control circuit controls the three-phase contactor and each of the three solid state relays of each power source to simulate various types of power failures that the switchgear is programmed to respond to.

Abstract

A system including an annular socket body for tightening a lock ring around a threaded end of a conduit connector extending through an opening in a wall of a junction box is provided. To facilitate capturing of the lock ring by the socket body without interference, the wrench lugs of the socket body each have a circumferential extent that is less than 50% of a circumferential extent between teeth of the lock ring, and there are half as many wrench lugs than teeth. Flat side faces of the wrench lugs are disposed at an angle of between about 15° and 40° relative to sides of the teeth of the lock rings so that the wrench lugs engage the lock ring teeth in a sliding point contact that promotes uniform engagement between the wrench lugs and the lock ring teeth when torque of about 1400 inch-pounds is applied to the socket body.

Abstract

A cable tray support system for supporting cables above an array of server racks in a data center is provided, along with a method of assembly. The system includes a free-standing cable tray support structure having vertical support posts disposed between the server racks in the array linked together by horizontal support members. Coupling assemblies couple the top ends of each vertical support posts with opposing ends of two horizontal support members arranged. The horizontal support members are sized to space the plurality of vertical support posts between the server racks of the array when the vertical support posts are coupled thereto. Tray supports mounted on along the horizontal support members support an upper and lower cable tray. Floor mounts anchor the bottom ends of the vertical support posts to the floor. The cable tray support structure may be assembled either before or after the array of server racks is installed in the data center, as it is mechanically independent from the server racks and ventilation components and is supported only by the floor.

Abstract

A bracket assembly and installation method are provided that connects and reinforces upper and lower stud wall frames in a stacked relationship. The bracket assembly includes upper and lower brackets connectible across the width inside of a pair of parallel, aligned studs of the upper and lower stud wall frames, respectively, and a pair of post members that interconnect the upper and lower brackets. In the installation method, aligned openings are provided in the top plate of the lower stud wall frame and the bottom plate of the upper stud wall frame. The post members are inserted through the aligned openings and are connected between the first and second brackets to resist bending at the interface between the stacked upper and lower stud walls. Each bracket is length-adjustable to accommodate variations in the width between the pair of parallel studs.

Abstract

A modular data center support rack system and installation method whereby system includes a plurality of modular support racks formed from bracket-like rack members that support data center electrical power components, and a transportable fixture that detachably holds the rack members into an assembly position. The transportable fixture remains detachably connected to the assembled modular support rack during the transportation thereof to an installation location to reinforce the modular support rack. Each modular support rack includes an arrangement of data center electrical power supply components that are registrable with and connectable the data center electrical power supply components on another of the modular support racks. In the installation method, the modular support racks are serially interconnected into an appropriate electrical supply configuration for a row of servers located beneath the row of modular support racks.

Abstract

A conduit spacing and mounting system and method are provided for prefabricating multilayered assemblies of conduits and mounting them end-to-end in a building. The system includes a pair of spacer plates, each having a same pattern of conduit-receiving openings, and a plurality of clamping assemblies, each including a bracket which is discrete from and individually attached to the spacer plate adjacent to one of the conduit-receiving openings. The clamping assemblies are oriented at different angles relative at different rows of the conduit-receiving openings to provide access for a clamp-tightening tool in the spaces between different rows of conduits. The use of spacer plates largely prevents lateral misalignments between the conduits, and the use of a separate bracket formed from a harder, stronger or thicker metal than the spacer plate greatly increases the strength and reliability of the clamping force applied to the conduits.

Abstract

An overhead-mounted cable tray and busway support system is provided for supporting communication cables and power busways that are connected to computer equipment housed within a data center. The system includes a plurality of brackets, and a roof mounting assembly. Each of the brackets is formed by a vertical member, a horizontal mounting member having a central portion affixed to a top end of the vertical member that is mountable directly or indirectly to a building roof, two cable tray supports connected to the vertical member at different points, and a busway support. The tray supports and the busway support are cantilevered from a same side of the vertical member so that all of the cables and busways may be conveniently installed from the front side of the cabinets housing the computer equipment. The horizontal mounting member is parallel to the tray supports to resist the torque applied to the brackets from the one-sided weight load of the cables and busways. The busway support mounts two or more horizontal busways at different heights and vertically-staggered with respect to each other to facilitate the installation of busplugs that provide power to the computer equipment.
