Said method is characterised by a first step wherein a monomer-free thermoplastic polyurethane is produced from an isocyanate reactive polymer or a mixture of isocyanate reactive polymers having a proportion of at least 90wt. %, preferably at least 95 wt. %, more particularly at least 99 wt. % of linear molecules by reacting it with a polyisocyanate having a molecular weight of < 500 in a molar deficiency of the isocyanate groups of the polyisocyanate in relation to the isocyanate reactive end groups of the polymer or the mixture of polymers. In a second step, the monomer-free thermoplastic polyurethane is converted into an isocyanate reactive polyurethane composition, with an isocyanate terminal prepolymer which has a low monomer content according to a mol ratio of the isocyanate reactive end groups of the thermoplastic polyurethane in relation to the isocyanate groups of the prepolymer from 1: 1,1 to 1: 5.
