Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing plant‐based protein concentrates from desolventized meal resulting from hexane extraction of oleaginous vegetable material and, preferably, from a high‐quality desolventized and defatted meal known as "white‐flakes". In particular, the invention relates to a substantial improvement allowing the valorisation of the fines and dust contained in white‐flakes by their agglomeration in specific extractable and undegraded agglomerates of food‐grades quality. This improvement allows a substantial yield increase of the extraction process without jeopardising the quality of the final plant‐based protein concentrate.

Abstract

The invention provides a method for the purifying of low-quality glyceridic material usually unfit for use as feed or food. The method includes a thermal treatment of the low-quality glyceridic material and chemical treatments. The purified oils and fat are suitable feed-stock or suitable components thereof for a hydrogenation processes yielding to high quality renewable diesel. The process thus permits the recycling of waste material that is usually discarded, into a valuable high-quality fuel.

Abstract

A vegetable oil physical refining process able to mitigate the occurrence of glycidyl esters (GE) including at least a deodorization step followed by a stripping step, wherein, the deodorization step includes contacting said vegetable oil with steam at a pressure above 5 mbara, during at least 10 minutes at a temperature of at least 230° C., and wherein the stripping step includes stripping the oil resulting from the deodorization step at a pressure below 5 mbara and at a temperature not exceeding 280° C. The process does not compromise the heat bleaching and the full removal of unwanted colours, taste and smell from the physically refined edible oil.

Abstract

This invention relates to a process for the continuous production of vegetal protein concentrates by removing the soluble carbohydrates by an aqueous alcohol from a defatted vegetable material said process requiring no frequent production interruptions for cleaning operations. The innovative process includes the steps of removing at least a fraction of the soluble carbohydrates by solvent extraction, the solvent being aqueous alcohol, to obtain a solvent wet protein rich vegetable material and a miscella; removing the aqueous alcohol form the solvent wet protein rich vegetable material to obtain a vegetable protein concentrate; wherein the solvent extraction takes place in a moving screen solvent extractor equipped with a cleaning means of the moving screen on its return journey and for which no plugging takes place for extended period of time.

Abstract

A system and method of the purification of drinking water, ethanol and alcohol beverages is based on the action of hydrodynamic cavitation processing of microbiological and chemical contaminants, micro particles and colloidal particles. The fluid flow moves at a high rate through a multi-stage cavitation device and filtration module to generate hydrodynamic cavitation features in the fluid flow. The cavitation features generate changes in the velocity, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and physical properties of the liquid. The cavitation features also prevent the deposition of contaminants upon and remove contaminants from the surface of the filter module, reduce the load on the filter elements and increase the life of the filter module.

Abstract

An oil bearing vegetable material crushing process including pre-heating and pre-drying the material to generate warm, partially dried oil bearing vegetable material. The partially dried material may then be surface heated rapidly, to generate warm and dried material having a weakened and non-adhering hull. The hull may then be mechanically cracked and removed to yield dehulled oil bearing vegetable material and hull. The dehulled material may be flaked to produce flakes. The flakes may be solvent extracted to generate solvent laden oil and solvent laden meal. The solvent laden meal produced may be desolventized to generate hot, wet meal. The wet meal produced may be dried to generate a hot vapor stream. The hot vapor stream generated by drying the meal is condensed in a condenser. The warm liquid medium produced in the condenser may be used to pre-heat and/or pre-dry the oil bearing vegetable material.

Abstract

A method for producing fatty acid alkyl esters from biolipids through transesterification and/or esterification reactions uses a flow-through cavitation device for generating cavitation bubbles in a fluidic reaction medium. The fluidic medium is passed through sequential compartments in the cavitation device having varying diameters and inner surface features to create localized reductions in fluid pressure thus vaporizing volatile alcohols and creating an increased surface area and optimized conditions for the reaction to occur at the gas-liquid interface around the bubbles.

Abstract

A method for processing a fluidic mixture in a multi-stage hydrodynamic cavitation device is disclosed. The fluidic mixture is introduced to an inlet and passed through a flowpath having at least ten cavitation zones. The fluidic mixture is exposed to cavitation inducing features in each of the at least ten cavitation zones to induce cavitation bubbles, which bubbles are then collapsed between every two adjacent of the at least ten cavitation zones. The multi-stage hydrodynamic cavitation device for processing the fluidic mixture has a generally cylindrical housing with an inlet, an outlet, a flowpath therebetween, and a plurality of cavitation zones along the flowpath. Two or more of the cavitation zones along the flowpath comprise a disk multi-jet nozzle having a plurality of through channels disposed across the surface thereof, wherein each channel includes expansions and contractions of its cross-sectional area along its length.

Abstract

The invention provides operating the dry or solvent fractionation of oils and fats in a crystallizer comprising a crystallization vessel (1,2), an agitator, cooling means and a drive, wherein said drive provides said agitator with an oscillating motion, and/or a rotating motion around an axis, with the proviso that each point of said agitator moves at substantially the same linear speed. The invention also provides a crystallizer comprising a crystallization vessel (1,2) having a polygonal cross-section, an agitator and a drive, wherein said drive provides said agitator with an oscillating motion, and wherein said agitator is not inclined to the moving direction.
