Abstract
A pleated paper container for holding a food product or non-food product, comprising a base, side walls, a rim, and a stopper step disposed at the side walls proximate to the rim, wherein the stopper step is configured to receive and frictionally engage a fibre lid in a covered position, thereby closing an opening of the container and enclosing the product. Also provided is a disposable pleated paper container with a lid, which are recyclable and compostable. A method and apparatus for manufacturing the pleated paper container is also disclosed, as well as a method for adapting a conventional condiment cup manufacturing apparatus to manufacture the improved pleated paper container.

Abstract
A lid applicator for simultaneously applying lids to multiple pleated paper portion cups, comprising a lower unit rotatably connected to an upper unit about a hinge, and rotatable between an open position and a closed position. The lower unit has a plurality of lower molds/cavities configured to receive the portion cups and which have a stopper rim corresponding to a position of a stopper step of the pleated portion cups. When the lower molds are loaded with pleated portion cups with lids, and the upper unit is pressed to the closed position, each lower mold matingly receives a corresponding upper mold. When in the closed position, each upper mold protrudes to an extent such that it is level with the stopper rim, thereby causing the upper molds to push each lid into the stopper step of each pleated portion cups, thereby securing the lids.
B65B 7/28 - Closing semi-rigid or rigid containers or receptacles not deformed by, or not taking-up shape of, contents, e.g. boxes or cartons by applying separate preformed closures, e.g. lids, covers
