A CLOSEABLE BULK FLUID ASSEMBLY

Application Number AU2025050050
Publication Number 2025/160618
Status In Force
Filing Date 2025-01-24
Publication Date 2025-08-07
Owner LEICA BIOSYSTEMS MELBOURNE PTY LTD (Australia)
Inventor Dzitac, Pavel

Abstract

Broadly speaking, the present disclosure relates to a closeable bulk fluid assembly ('CBA') which comprises a receptacle (e.g. bottle) configured to hold a reagent. The CBA may be configured to be connected to an instrument which uses the reagent (e.g. for medical purposes). In order to replenish the bottle of the CBA with a reagent, an operative scans the barcode of a reagent supply bottle. Consequently, a locking mechanism for the CBA is actuated and the front fascia will automatically open allowing access to the funnel of the bottle. The funnel can be easily opened by an operative. The operative may replenish the reagent in the bottle, but advantageously, the operative cannot remove the bottle from the CBA during a refill operation. Thus, human error is minimized because the chances of the operative mixing up the bottles are greatly reduced.

Abstract

Described herein is a sample processing assembly for treatment of a sample on a substrate, the assembly including: a mounting block including a mounting surface for the substrate; a closure body configured to support a cover member, the closure body being rotatable about a first pivot axis between an open position and a closed position, such that when the substrate is placed in the assembly and the closure body is in the closed position, the cover member engages the substrate to form a reaction chamber for processing the sample; a closure body arm rotatable about the second pivot axis and engaging with the closure body so that rotation of the arm about the second pivot axis causes movement of the closure body between the open and closed positions; and a substrate retaining mechanism including: a cam, and a substrate retaining arm rotatable about the first pivot axis, the substrate retaining arm including a cam follower for sliding engagement with the cam, wherein the substrate retaining mechanism is configured so that when the closure body is closed and the cover member engages the substrate, the substrate retaining arm is clear of the substrate, as the closure body arm commences rotation to enable the closure body to rotate towards the open position, but whilst the closure body remains in a closed position, the substrate retaining arm moves into engagement with the substrate, and once the cover member is fully separated from substrate, the substrate retaining arm disengages with the substrate.

Abstract

A sample, embedded in a paraffin block, is placed on a tissue cassette which carries a label which may be a bar code. When the sample is processed, the cassette is given to a microtome operator who scans the label. Scanning causes information to be displayed on a screen and the operator verifies that what is on the screen matches what was on the label. The paraffin block is then placed in a microtome chuck and sections are cut from the block. A number of slide labels related to the cassette label are printed for the sections. If the operator does not verify that the information displayed on the screen matches the information on the cassette label and/or does not place the paraffin block in the microtome chuck within an allocated time interval after scanning the cassette label, dispensing and labeling of slides and/or operation of the microtome is prevented.

Abstract

A mixing vial is provided for an automated biological reaction apparatus typically used for staining tissue samples in Immuno-histological and in-situ hybridisation reactions. The mixing vial allows reagents placed on the apparatus to be mixed together to form additional or blended reagents. A reagent dispenser mounted on a robotic arm withdraws reagent from the reagent containers and deposits it into one of the mixing vials. Several reagents can be deposited into each vial. Mixing is undertaken by withdrawing the reagents in a vial and re-dispensing the reagent back into the vial. Mixing may take place between the operation of other tasks performed by the apparatus, and a scheduler is used to ensure blended reagent is provided before it is required in one of the processes undertaken on the apparatus. The apparatus is able to automatically identify which blended reagents are required and when they must be applied to provide an appropriate schedule that minimises time taken to stain samples.

Abstract

A method an apparatus for identifying slides is disclosed, where samples such as tissue sample mounted to slides are labeled with information, and an image of the information is captured by a processing instrument. The image is analyzed, for example using optical character recognition, and information extracted from the image is used to determine the test to be applied to the slide by the processing instrument. Where information about the slide cannot be extracted from the image, the image is presented to a user to that the slide information, such as its identity or the test to be applied, may be selected by the user to allow the slide to be processed.

Abstract

A sample, which is embedded in a paraffin block, is placed on a tissue cassette (22) which carries a label (20) which may a bar code. When the sample is to be processed, the cassette is given to a microtome operator who scans the label (20) with, for example, a bar code reader (4). Scanning causes information to be displayed on a screen (12) and the operator verifies that what is on the screen matches what was on the label. The paraffin block is then placed in a microtome chuck (26) and sections are cut from the block. Concurrently with, or prior to sectioning, a number of slides (18) are dispensed (2) and are printed with a label (16) so that the sections can be mounted thereon. The slide label (16) is related to the cassette label (20). If the operator does not verify that the information displayed on the screen matches the information on the cassette label (20) and/or does not place the paraffin block in the microtome chuck (26) within an allocated time interval after scanning the cassette label (20), dispensing and labelling of slides (18) and/or operation of the microtome is prevented. This ensures accurate identification of samples within a laboratory as it does allow the operator the opportunity lose track of which samples were being processed.
