Abstract

A gating circuit for generating a voltage gating signal for controlling on/off operation of a photon detector, said photon detector having a superconducting sensing element for detecting photons and one input/output configured to both input the voltage gating signal to the superconducting sensing element and output a readout signal from said superconducting sensing element, said gating circuit comprising a signal generator for generating a first periodic signal, said gating circuit being characterised in that it further comprises a gate shaping circuit configured to shape the first periodic signal to obtain a periodic voltage gating signal having during each period a transient pulse followed by a plateau.
