Abstract
An optically writable holographic card (100), an optically writable holographic media, and a method of making the media are herein described. The card (100) has a media region (102) that includes an optically writable material. The optically writable material has an holographic embossment such that an holographic image is producible by the optically writable material. The media includes an holographically embossed first layer (404, 504). An optically writable, optically readable second layer (406, 506) conforms to the embossment (404, 504). The holographic image is generable by the second layer (406, 506). The method includes producing an holographic embossment associated with an holographic image. An optically writable layer is conformed to the holographic embossment. The holographic image is viewable in response to illuminating the optically writable layer. The optically writable layer is optically readable. The optically writable material on the card (100) may support optically written digital data and an optically written image, or an optically written image having embedded digital data.

Abstract
An identification card (300) and a method for formation of the card (300) are disclosed. The identification card (300) comprises an optical identification element formed upon a surface of the identification card (300) and an optical stripe (303) formed on the optical identification element and having at least a portion formed substantially from a single material. The single material is configured to have a diffractive pattern (305) formed thereon by exposure to a laser. The diffractive pattern is capable of retaining information that is, for example, unique to a cardholder and being readable by a light source external to the identification card (300).

Abstract
A device for reading optical data cards (38). This device includes a shuttle (54) mounted on shuttle tracks (28, 46) within the device housing (12). The shuttle (54) is configured to move back and forth on the shuttle tracks (28, 46) driven by the shuttle motor (74). A card loader (124, 128) allows optical data cards (38) to be positioned onto the shuttle (54). A CD optical read head (104) mounted on optical read head tracks (106, 112) and driven by an optical head motor (100) is modified to read a single track of optical card data and reads the optical card (38). A controller receives data from the read head (104) and controls the movement of the shuttle and the optical head (104).

Abstract
A radio frequency identification (RFID) card having an antenna (303) configured to transmit data wirelessly to a remote receiver and an integrated circuit (301) configured to transmit the data through the antenna to the remote receiver. The integrated circuit (301) includes a transmitter section (403) and a memory section (405). The memory section (405) is configured to store the data. A power generating device (501) is configured to supply power to the integrated circuit (301) and a light-sensitive switch (305, 351, 407, 503) is interposed between one or more portions of the RFID card. The light-sensitive switch (305, 351, 407, 503) is configured to provide electrical coupling between the one or more portions of the RFID card when light is incident on the switch (305, 351, 407, 503).

A method and device for private/public key encryption using optical media. A key pair is generated, and the public key pair is stored on the optical media (13). The media (13) is scanned and the optical media characteristics are used to hash stored information with the private key. The hashed version of the private key is then stored on the optical media (13). A read/write unit may subsequently de-hash the private key for encryption of data files.
