Abstract

Some examples include checking the quality of printed products that are consecutively produced by multiple printing presses to have at least three printed patterns spaced apart from one another. The printed patterns are printed using different printing processes, such as a steel engraving process, an offset printing process, and a screen printing process that may be used for printing the three printed patterns of each printed product. A screen printing press is used for the screen printing process, with multiple steel plates being alternately used in the same production operation for the steel engraving process in an intaglio printing press. For at least two of the steel plates involved in carrying out the steel engraving process, a processing unit may selectively ascertain the deviation of the respective value of the relevant distances associated with the printed patterns, which may be instantaneously ascertained from a defined scale.

Abstract

In some examples, photographic mapping of an object takes place during transport at a fixed position by means of a line camera in a sequence of recording periods. An exposure device is exposed for an exposure time that is dependent on the duration of the on-time of the line camera. Each strip-shaped portion of the object to be photographically mapped is exposed, within a recording period, asynchronously for the duration of a first exposure time to white light and for the duration of a second exposure time either to ultraviolet light or to IR light. Each strip-shaped portion of the print image to be photographically mapped is alternately exposed by the exposure device, within the recording period photographically mapping the portion, to white light and either to UV light or to IR light during the duration of the on-time of the line camera.

Abstract

A method for separating printed products, that are printed together onto a sheet of printed products, is disclosed. The printed products are printed onto a sheet in a printing press and are separated in a cutting system by a cutting device. Each of these printed products has an identification feature that identifies its respective position on the sheet. The sheet becomes deformed as it passes through the printing press. The separated printed products, which are likewise deformed, as a result of the deformation of the sheet, are inspected, in a quality control device which is located downstream of the cutting system, for compliance with the tolerance, at least with regard to the respective length or width of the printed products. For each printed product that has been identified, in terms of its position, the quality control device detects information relating to an exceeding of the tolerance, at least for the length or width of the printed product, and transmits that information, assigning that information to the position identified on the sheet, to a control unit of the cutting system. Based on the information transmitted by the quality control device, for printed products that are arranged in the same position on the sheet, and which will subsequently be separated in the cutting system, the control unit of the cutting system adjusts the relevant sheet and the cutting device in their respective positions, relative to one another, in such a way that each of the printed products to be separated complies with the respective tolerance. Compliance with the tolerance is achieved in that the position of the sheet and of the cutting device to be adjusted relative to one another is calculated in the control unit using a mathematical optimization method. The sheet is placed on a cutting table in the cutting system. The control unit of the cutting system adjusts the position of the sheet relative to the cutting device, according to the calculated position.

Abstract

A gravure printing unit, which is usable for printing on a substrate, according to a gravure printing method, includes a forme cylinder which comprises, on its circumference, an image-forming pattern of recesses, and an inking unit, by the use of which the pattern of recesses provided on the forme cylinder is inked. The forme cylinder can be partially inked from an inking device via a first inking unit cylinder which has recesses in the region of its outer cylindrical surface that correspond to recesses on the forme cylinder, and via a second inking unit cylinder, which cooperates with the first inking unit cylinder and which comprises ink-transferring elements or raised areas on its circumference. For controlling the transfer of ink, the first inking unit cylinder having the recesses, is configured as being temperature controllable or has a temperature control device in the ink unit supply. Alternatively, a printing pressure between inking units cylinders can be varied during operation. The invention also relates to a method for adjusting or modifying a transfer of ink and for operating the gravure printing unit.

Abstract

The invention relates to a drying unit (22) for drying printed substrates (21), comprising a chamber (23) with a gaseous medium which is oxygen-reduced by means of an inert gas, wherein the substrates (21) are guided through the chamber (23) or at least can be guided through the chamber, and the chamber (23) has an entrance for the substrates (21) to be guided into the chamber (23) in the transport direction (T) of the substrates (21). The entrance for the substrates (21) to be guided into the chamber (23) is formed by two cylinders (04; 06) which are positioned against each other longitudinally. The cylinders (04; 06) positioned against each other at the entrance of the chamber (23) form a printing unit (03). One of the cylinders (04) is designed as a printing cylinder (04), and the other cylinder (06) is designed as a cylinder (06) which interacts with the printing cylinder (04) and applies a printed image onto the affected substrates (21). The two cylinders (04; 06) which are positioned against each other under pressure at the entrance of the chamber (23) form a seal which runs axially to the cylinders (04; 06) for preventing the oxygen-reduced gaseous medium from leaking out of the chamber (23) and/or for preventing oxygen from the ambient air from entering the chamber (23). The printing unit (03) arranged at the entrance of the chamber (23) is designed as a printing unit (03) for an intaglio printing process.
