Abstract

The invention relates to a razor or razor blade cartridge (1) including at least one razor blade (3) and a housing (5) made from a polymer material and comprising an outer surface wherein at least part of the outer surface of the housing is coated with a hydrophilic material (11), and the outer surface of the housing comprises undulations (12) on at least a portion of the coated part. The outer surface is preferably a vinylmonomer such as an acrylamide. The undulations or texturing are formed by etching or other methods of micromachining and result in greater adhesion of the coating to the outer surface and improved friction properties.

Abstract

The invention relates to a shaving system comprising: a razor handle 1, and a disposable cartridge 60, the handle including a hand grip portion 2 and a mounting portion 30, the handle being made from two materials, a relatively rigid material and a relatively elastomeric material. The mounting portion includes a recess 36 which extends through the mounting part and includes a detent means 35, and the cartridge comprises an attachment tongue 80 which includes an enlarged portion 81, such that when the cartridge is fitted to the razor handle, the enlarged portion extends through the recess in the mounting part and is detained by the detent means to fixedly attached the handle for use. To replace the cartridge, when pressure is applied by a user to the attachment tongue on side protruding through the recess, the attachment tongue is pushed away from the mounting portion, releasing the detent means, and consequently the cartridge, out of the fixedly attached position.

Abstract

The invention relates to a wet razor system 1 comprising a razor cartridge head and a handle 3 having a hollow body 5; the hollow body comprises a battery compartment to permit the insertion of a battery therein; a battery cap means removably mounted on the hollow body; which includes sealing means between said battery cap and the hollow body to provide a waterproof seal. The motor is fixedly mounted in the hollow body of said handle and aligned with the battery and at the razor cartridge head end, said motor having a shaft extending therefrom; an eccentric element fixedly connected to said shaft and disposed for rotation within said hollow body; the battery operatively connected to said motor to rotate said eccentric element to vibrate at a frequency corresponding to the speed of the motor. The razor cartridge head is connected to the handle by means of an elastomeric element arranged between the razor cartridge and the handle end, such that vibration from the handle hollow body is transferred to the razor cartridge.

Abstract

The invention relates to razors and razor blade cartridges and methods of manufacture therefore including at least one razor blade housing made from polymer material and at least one skin contacting surface, the at least one skin contacting surface being made of a superhydrophillic polymer material. The polymer material has surface properties modified by functionalisation. Preferably the polymer material is a TPU or TPE, with a Rockwell hardness D scale between 30D and 85D, a tensile strength between 35 and 80 MPA and a flexural modulas between 40 and 2350 MPA The invention also relates to a method of manufacture of a razor blade cartridge including the steps of moulding a cartridge housing including skin contacting surfaces of polymeric material; subsequently activating the skin engaging surfaces of the polymer using either physical or chemical means to make the surface receptive to the covalent grafting of a monomer, and grafting a functional group onto the surface such as an N-vinyl lactam.

Abstract

A shaving system comprises a range of two or more razor handles (1, 1') and a replaceable blade unit (60) adapted to fit interchangeably on each of the handles. The blade unit is pivotably mounted (i.e. mounted for angular deflection, such as about a living hinge (4)) with respect to the handgrip (2) and biased to a rest position by a bias element (11, 11') on the handle, which provides a "harder" or "softer" shave according to the handle selected. The bias element may comprise a part of an elastomeric body (10, 10') moulded integrally with the handle, the colour and hardness of the elastomer being selected to determine the Spring Index (shave hardness) of each handle and to serve as a corresponding visible indication to the user. Preferably, the pivot axis (P) is arranged just in front of the blade unit so that the maximum shaving force applied in normal use corresponds to the restoring force exerted by the bias element. An apparatus (100) for measuring the Spring Index of the handle is disclosed.
