Abstract

A dental crown having antibacterial nanoparticles embedded thereon and a method of obtaining the same. The dental crown is prepared by sandblasting the crown with the antibacterial nanoparticles to increase the surface porosity and roughness of an intaglio surface of the dental crown. This procedure can be used to enhance metal and/or zirconia crown fitting surfaces for improving bonding and increasing clinical durability. During this procedure, the antibacterial nanoparticles which are biocompatible to the human body will further be introduced to reduce secondary caries and help to provide protection of the prepared tooth. The antibacterial nanoparticles can be graphene oxide (GEO).

Abstract

Hydrogen is cooled during storage in the form of a metal hydride. A storage tank or container with a metal hydride precursor is provided with at least one spiral cooling tube, configured with an elliptical cross-section. A coolant fluid is caused to flow within the spiral cooling tube. Hydrogen is combined with the hydride precursor to provide a metal hydride bed within the storage tank or container, and, while combining the hydrogen with the metal, heat is extracted through the spiral cooling tube. A swirling flow within the spiral cooling tube is used to improve the heat transfer in the system and enhance the hydrogen absorption process. Ferromagnetic nanoparticles in the coolant fluid are used within the spiral cooling tube. and electromagnets to establish a magnetic field interacting with ferromagnetic nanoparticles in the coolant fluid to establish flow and improve heat transfer.

Abstract

An etch process performed during semiconductor processing is monitored using a resonant structure on a surface of a wafer, formed on the surface of a wafer as a resonant cavity. A resonance sensor is positioned over the wafer within a plasma etch chamber so as to establish a resonance with the resonant structure. A resonant frequency of the resonant structure is sensed through the resonant structure and shifts in the resonant frequency are thereby detected during an etch process as a measurement of the etch process. The etch process is controlled in accordance with the shift in the resonant frequency.

A photochromic material can include strontium aluminate (SAN) nanoparticles included within styrene-acrylonitrile polymer (SAP) reinforced with electrospun glass nanofibers (EGN). In some embodiments, the photochromic material may be transparent. In other embodiments, the photochromic material may be scratch resistant. In some embodiments, the photochromic material may be configured to form bricks. In still other embodiments, the photochromic material may be configured to form smart windows. The clamp anchorage with locking nut and bolt covers is similar to a conventional clamp anchorage, but with additional first and second locking plates. Abstract

A cement composition is provided including a cementitious matrix containing Portland cement and a volcanic pumice component incorporated within the cementitious matrix. The volcanic pumice component is prepared by grinding in a ball mill using tungsten balls. The ball mill uses a tungsten carbide bowl of capacity 250 ml and the 12 tungsten carbide balls each having a diameter of about 20 mm. The volcanic pumice component is prepared in the ball mill at a speed of about 500 rpm for a duration about 10 minutes, about 1 hour, and about 3 hours. The volcanic pumice component is included in an amount of between about 10% w/w and about 30% w/w.

Abstract

A novel system of powered dynamic reusable Braille cells (BCs) is designed for visually impaired individuals. Each BC, with six tactile dots, is wirelessly configurable and expandable, forming a network to present updated information efficiently. The system exploits a low-power wireless connectivity mechanism and physical connectivity mechanisms such as magnets or mechanical interlocks. The mechanisms facilitate communication with a host device enabling tactile dot configuration, reconfiguration, and resetting. The network allows a designated primary node for wireless communication, ensuring effective interaction with a controller. In addition to its core functionalities, the system enables a fault tolerance mechanism, where BCs with critically low battery levels trigger self-reset and notify adjacent BCs. A physical integrity mechanism continuously monitors the network, instantly detecting and responding to any physical loss or damage. Furthermore, a robust data integrity mechanism prevents the acceptance of invalid inputs, enhancing the reliability of information conveyed through the BC network.

Abstract

A structural modification of curcumin designed to increase its antioxidant activity is provided. The approach involves the substitution of one methoxy group (OCH3) by methyl (CH3) and the substitution of one hydroxy group (OH), at the other end of the molecule from the substituted methoxy group, with an amino group (NH2), resulting in the formation of a new structure. Based on quantum calculations, this modification may enhance the antioxidant properties of curcumin and its ability to scavenge free radicals.

Identification and categorizing of people according to educational capability is performed as indicated by detected brain activity by use of a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) and associated sensor electrodes. Locations on a subject's head for detection of brain electrical activity emanating from a brain region most associated with creativity are identified, and the sensor electrodes are positioned on the subject's head at positions to allow the detection of the brain electrical activity at those locations. An output of the BCI is provided to a monitor, and the subject's brain activity is monitored with the BCI connected to the sensor electrodes. Sensed quantity and speed of change measurements of brain electrical activity emanating from the brain region most associated with creativity using the BCI are monitored according to the sensed quantity and speed of change measurements.

A sooty falcon nest includes a column having a height of between 3 to 5 meters, and a 3D printed enclosure located on top of the column. The 3D printed enclosure is printed using indigenous material where the nest is to be positioned simulating a natural environment of the nest. The 3D printed enclosure is 10 cm wide, 10 cm high and 10 cm deep and has an opening allowing for access into the 3D printed enclosure, and to decrease temperature and humidity to avoid any popular infectious problems in falcon species that may threaten falcon chicks such as parasitic or mycotic diseases. A tracking system is located within the 3D printed enclosure, and an external monitoring device receives data from the tracking system allowing for monitoring activities within the 3D printed enclosure.

Abstract

Novel composites as antibacterial agents having crystalline oxides (TiO2 and ZnO) combined with organoselenium compounds. The organoselenium aids in increasing the biosafety of the synthesized composite, which is characterized by different physicochemical techniques. Additionally, XRD indicates that the oxide part of the introduced composite is a mixture of TiO2 as a rutile structure and ZnO as a hexagonal structure. The results confirm the successful grafting of the organoselenium compound onto the mixed oxide nanoparticles. Besides, the SEM and TEM morphology of the fabricated composites was found as heterogeneous particles that are formed as micro flowers or nanosheets according to the specific organoselenium compound used. The formed composites have a promising inhibition zone against many microorganisms and can be effective as novel antibacterial agents.

Wound dressings fabricated from a polymeric mixture of cellulose acetate and hyaluronic acid embedded with copper oxide and/or magnesium oxide nanoparticles and a method of making the wound dressing. The method includes combining hyaluronic acid and deionized water to form a first mixture, combining cellulose acetate and acetone to form a second mixture, combining the first and second mixtures to form a third mixture of hyaluronic acid, cellulose acetate, deionized water and acetone, separately adding at least one of a copper acetate solution and a magnesium chloride solution to the third mixture to form a fourth mixture, adding sodium hydride to the fourth mixture to form a final mixture, and drying the final mixture to form a film used for the wound dressing. Different weights of copper oxide and magnesium oxide can be chosen to achieve a certain morphological appearance. The wound dressing is a promising option for wound healing.

Abstract

An instrument and method for collecting and harvesting gingival crevicular fluid samples in a noninvasive manner is provided. Once optimally positioned, an absorbing brush of the instrument is inserted into the gingival sulcus of a patient and held in place while the bristles of the absorbing brush absorb the gingival crevicular fluid. Once removed from the collection sight, the absorbing brush bristles can provide a visual indication of the presence of biomarkers and proteins associated with periodontitis.
