Abstract

The invention generally relates to a novel ‘One Process’ for production of polypeptides comprising an anti-idiotypic, mirror image of the antigenic determinants of an agent of interest such as a disease-causing agent. In particular, the polypeptides are used to pre-treat samples prior to indirect ELISA assays and in its incorporation in vaccines. When used in indirect ELISA assays, the result is a significant reduction in false positives, while its inclusion in vaccines provides an additive induction of immunity in humans and different animal species by the proteinaceous mirror image of weak immunogens including, lipid, carbohydrate, and low molecular weight molecules of the agent of interest. The incorporation of anti-idiotypes produced by the ‘One Process’ in vaccines induces antibodies that is used in cocktail of therapeutics for treatment of injurious antigens and autoimmune reactions in humans and animals.

Abstract

Examples include receiving and storing samples of target frequency bands filtered from EEG measurement of a subject's brain waves in an NFB training session. In an example, upon storing a time window of the samples, unsupervised adaptive adjusting an NFB reward threshold is automatic. The adjusting includes, in examples, determining neuromarker values in the time window, which indicate peak values of the target frequency bands over the time window. The adjusting computes the mean value of the neuromarker values and, utilizing same, automatically proceeds to unsupervised computing an adaptive adjusted reward threshold. The unsupervised computing, in examples, includes a multiplication product of a reward threshold adjustment factor, a training protocol value, and the computed mean value of the neuromarker values. Examples proceed to communicating the adaptive adjusted reward threshold to a controller for threshold based feedback reward to the NBF subject.

Abstract

A synthetic DNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 infection comprises a codon-optimized coding sequence for optimal mammalian expression of a pSARS2 spike glycoprotein (pSARS2-S). The signal peptide may be replaced with the signal peptide from the human IgG2 heavy chain. Systemic S1-specific IgG antibodies and neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) were significantly induced in mice at 2 weeks-post three injections with 100 μg of the pSARS2-S vaccine via intramuscular (IM) needle injection. IM immunization induced Th1-skewed and long-lasting IgG response in BALB/c mice. Immunogenicity and induction of nAbs were enhanced with a needle-free delivery system, wherein two doses were sufficient to elicit significant levels of systemic S1-specific IgG antibodies and nAbs via IM or intradermal immunization.

Abstract

Memristor based chaotic oscillators exhibit complex dynamics. They are often chosen for secure communication owing to their interesting feature. In chaos-based secure communication applications using the master-slave configuration, synchronization is a central issue. Most of the synchronization methods proposed in the literature are asymptotic. In practice, it is desirable that synchronization be established in a predefined time. This invention provides new developments in the design of high-gain observers with an unknown input dedicated for predefined-time synchronization of memristor based chaotic systems. The proposed predefined-time extended high gain observer is constructed on the basis of a time-dependent coordinates transformation based on modulating functions that annihilate the effect of initial conditions on the synchronization time. Both noise-free channel and noisy channel are considered. Simulations performed on a numerical example illustrated the efficiency of proposed approaches.

Abstract

A method of making a composite laminate includes dequilling chicken feathers to form chicken feather fibers (CFFs). The CFFs and Ceiba Pentandra bark fibers (CPFs) are milled to form milled CFFs and milled CPFs so that the milled CFFs have a length of smaller than 200 microns and the milled CPFs have a length of smaller than 600 microns. The CFFs are treated with an amine compatibilizer to esterify carboxy groups present on keratin in the CFFs. A mixture of an epoxy resin, the milled CFFs, and the milled CPFs is solution cast to form an epoxy composite. A first carbon fabric layer and a second carbon fabric layer are placed on a front side and a backside, respectively, of the epoxy composite to form an epoxy laminate precursor. The epoxy laminate precursor is compression molded to cure the epoxy laminate precursor to form the composite laminate.

Abstract

A system, method, and non-transitory computer readable medium that detects trajectories of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) approaching a protected site is described. Airborne defense agents (ADAs) located at a fixed radius from the protected and equidistant from one another detect acoustic signals emitted by an approaching UAV. Circuitry included in each ADA use the detected acoustic signals to determine a direction and a distance of each UAV. A base station having a control center (BS-CC) located in the protected site communicates with the ADAs to aggregate direction and distance data from the ADAs. Using the aggregated direction and distance data, the BS-CC predicts routes towards the protected site of the approaching UAV and alerts the protected site of the predicted route of the approaching UAV.

Abstract

A system and a method for measuring drilling damage in fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) composites is described. Multiple holes are drilled in the FRP composite using a drill having nominal diameter, and the FRP composite is separated into multiple drilled blocks. Each block, covered with the black substrate, is scanned on a scanner to generate a scanned image depicting a hole region, a background, and delamination damage peaks. For each scanned image, a maximum delamination damage peak and a maximum diameter of a first circle concentric with the drilled hole and passing through tip of the maximum delamination peak, are measured. Further, a delamination size and a delamination factor are calculated based on the maximum diameter of the first circle and the nominal diameter of the drill.

Abstract

A method for correct operation of the current-angle-based phase-selection method (PSM) is based on a proper dual current controller (DCC) for inverter interfaced sources during unbalanced fault conditions. The fault type is determined in the inverter using voltage-angle-based PSM. Accordingly, fault-type zones' bisectors of the current-angle-based are determined. Consequently, an initial negative-sequence current angle reference is determined to force the relative angle between the negative- and zero-sequence currents in the center of its correct fault-type zone. The initial positive-sequence current angle is determined according to reactive current requirements by grid codes. These initial angles are updated for accurate operation of the PSM and appropriate reactive current injection. Negative- and positive-sequence current references are determined in the stationary frame to comply with the reference angles and inverter's thermal limits. These references are regulated by a proportional-resonance controller.

Abstract

A bioactive borate glass adhesive system is described for its composition and use in adhering a plurality of dental restorative components onto a tooth surface. The adhesive system comprises silanated borate bioactive glass particles and a biocompatible resin blend. The bioactive adhesive system functions as a non-degradable, permanent adhesive in tooth restoration in the presence of saliva. In addition, the bioactive borate adhesive system may be used for re-mineralization, de-sensitization and self-healing of dentin and enamel by releasing and depositing calcium and phosphate ions onto the exposed and damaged tooth surface.
