2.1. The invention relates to a honing method for processing an inner surface of a borehole in a workpiece using at least one honing operation. A honing tool which can be widened and which is coupled to a spindle shaft of a spindle unit of a processing machine is introduced into the borehole. By means of a reciprocating drive, a back and forth relative movement between the honing tool and the borehole is generated and the honing tool is simultaneously rotated by a rotary drive in order to generate a rotational movement superimposed over the reciprocating movement. At least one cutting element attached to the honing tool is pressed onto the inner surface with an application force for the material-removing processing of the inner surface, wherein the reciprocating drive and the rotary drive are controlled by control signals of a control unit. 2.2.
