Abstract

A vehicular temperature regulating system and a panel assembly for radiating heat within a passenger compartment of a vehicle are provided. The assembly includes a substrate panel made of a substantially rigid or semi-rigid, thermally conductive, polymeric material. The panel is configured to be attached to a support structure of the vehicle. The assembly also includes a thermoelectric heater having an array of thermoelectric devices in heat transfer relationship with the panel and configured to generate heat when energized by an electrical power source of the vehicle. Heat conductive properties of the polymeric material allow the panel to transfer heat generated by the heater to a front surface of the panel to heat the panel to an elevated temperature via thermal conduction. Substantially the entire front surface of the panel is sized and shaped to radiate the transferred heat in the form of infrared radiation into the passenger compartment.

Abstract

A vehicular temperature regulating system and panel assembly including a touch panel configured to be heated or cooled within a passenger compartment of a vehicle having a support structure are provided. The assembly includes a touch panel made of a substantially rigid or semirigid, thermally conductive, polymeric material. The touch panel is configured to be attached to the support structure. The assembly also includes a thermoelectric heater/cooler including an array of thermoelectric devices in heat transfer relationship with the touch panel and is configured to pump heat when energized by an electrical power source of the vehicle. Heat conductive properties of the polymeric material allow the touch panel to transfer heat either to or from substantially the entire touch surface of the touch panel to heat or cool, respectively, the touch surface via thermal conduction. Thermal comfort of a passenger within the compartment is thereby improved.

Abstract

A method and system for marking a workpiece at a marking location by infusing colorant into targeted surface material within a region of the workpiece via laser-induced chemical etching are disclosed. The system includes a laser subsystem for generating a pulsed laser output and a transport subsystem including a medium containing the colorant mounted immediately adjacent the marking location to transfer the colorant to the targeted surface material upon impact by the pulsed laser output. The system also includes a delivery subsystem for irradiating the medium and the targeted surface material with the pulsed laser output to melt the targeted surface material to obtain molten material and to transfer the colorant from the medium to the molten material. The molten material allows the transferred colorant to thermally diffuse into and chemically bond to the molten material. Each laser pulse creates a microtextured colorized spot of material on the workpiece.

Abstract

An outlet assembly having a plurality of different operating modes for improving air flow in an air distribution system is provided. The assembly includes a first blocking element supported by a first wall of a housing for movement between blocking and unblocking positions within a cavity of the housing. The first blocking element prevents a first layer of air from flowing immediately adjacent the first wall in its blocking position. A second blocking element is supported by a second wall of the housing for movement between blocking and unblocking positions within the cavity. The second blocking element prevents a second layer of air from flowing immediately adjacent the second wall in its blocking position. An actuator subassembly including a selector member is supported for movement between a plurality of predefined positions which correspond to first and second blocking modes and a nominal unblocking mode.

Abstract

An illuminable vehicle interior assembly such as safety belt buckle assembly is provided. An illumination module includes a substrate, a light source supported on the substrate to emit incoherent visible light rays through a light emitting surface of the light source and a driver supported on the substrate to controllably supply electrical power to the light source based on a command signal from a remote electronic control unit over a vehicle bus. A lens is molded in a molding process to have a light transmissive output surface and a light transmissive input surface aligned with the light source. The lens gathers and receives the light rays at the input surface and redirects gathered light rays to the output surface to generate light in a pattern of substantially uniform intensity into a passenger compartment of a vehicle.

Abstract

A vehicle interior trim assembly such as an air bag cover assembly having an illuminable emblem is provided. The assembly includes a vehicle interior trim part and an illumination module having a light source configured to generate visible light rays when energized. A lens includes at least one layer molded in a molding process from an optical-grade material. The lens has a pattern of light-extracting deformities to extract light rays from an interior of the lens at a set of surface-defining areas of the lens. The surface-defining areas are sized, shaped and arranged laterally relative to each other in an emblem pattern. A decorative emblem has reflective surfaces overlying and spaced away from the surface-defining areas by an air gap. The extracted light rays traveling across the gap are reflected by the reflective surfaces to generate light in the emblem pattern about peripheral surfaces of the decorative emblem.

A speaker system such as a sound bar assembly having a plurality of speaker units and improved sound quality is provided. Opposing mating portions of front and back panels of the assembly or system are fused or welded together to form outer boundary and interior joints where the front and back panels are welded together. The front and back panels are spaced apart at their first and second ends to define first and second speaker compartments, respectively, separated by a central compartment. A speaker unit is positioned in each of the speaker compartments. The speaker compartments are acoustically isolated from one another by the interior joints to improve the sound quality.
