A carpet or carpet tile comprising a biobased backing is provided. The resultant carpet tile has advantages in terms of environmental issues and reduces the need for fossil fuels. The backing is made using a backing composition comprising a resin, an oil, optionally a thermoplastic elastomer, and a filler material.

Abstract

In a carpet manufacturing method, for a plurality of yarns each having a length, a plurality of marks are provided on each yarn at selected locations along the yarn. In the carpet manufacturing method and in a carpet manufacturing assembly, each yarn is stored on or in an associated storage, and fed from its associated storage to a carpet manufacturing apparatus. For each yarn, the marks on the yarn are detected upstream of the carpet manufacturing apparatus. On the basis of the detection of the marks, the uptake of the yarn by the carpet manufacturing apparatus is controlled, where after, in the carpet manufacturing apparatus, the yarns are processed to form at least part of a carpet.

Abstract

A composite carpet comprises a plurality of upper carpet tiles and plurality of lower carpet backing tiles. The plurality of upper carpet tiles form an upper carpet layer, and the plurality of lower carpet backing tiles form a lower carpet backing layer. The upper carpet tiles are connected to each other by carpet tile connectors comprising a film and an adhesive layer. The upper carpet tiles are unconnected to the lower carpet backing tiles. One of the length dimension of the upper carpet tile and the length dimension of the lower carpet backing tile is an integer multiple n (n = 1, 2, 3,...) of the other one, and one of the width dimension of the upper carpet tile and the width dimension of the lower carpet backing tile is an integer multiple n (n = 1, 2, 3,...) of the other one. The upper carpet tiles are laid shifted relative to the lower carpet backing tiles, while it is prevented that a seam between adjacent upper carpet tiles overlaps a seam between adjacent lower carpet backing tiles.

Abstract

The support material comprises a first layer of a non-woven material, provided with a reinforcement, such as a second layer of a scrim adhered to the first layer.
