Abstract

A package for packing a generally block shaped product (3) comprises a generally rectangular sheet (1 ) of a flexible, foldable packaging material provided with an inner surface of a sealable coating. The sheet includes a central body portion (2) for enclosing the block shaped product and opposite side portions (6, 7) and opposite end portions (8, 9) adjacent to the central body portion and forming a frame shaped portion (5) surrounding the central body portion (2). A flap portion (10, 11 ) of each of the side portions is folded inwardly and sealed inner face to inner face to form tabs (14, 15). The sheet is folded around the product such that the body portion encloses the block shaped product with the inner surface facing the product. The inner surface of one of the side portions (6) abuts the inner surface of the other side portion (7), the side portions being mutually sealed by means of a longitudinal seal (18). The inner surface of each of the end portions (8, 9) abuts itself, each of the end portions being sealed by means of an end seal (19, 20). The central body portion (2) enclosing the product is without the sealable coating, and the frame shaped portion (5) surrounding the central body portion is provided with a sealable coating of a cold sealable and peelable composition preferably extending up to the very edges of the sheet.

Abstract

Sliced loaves of bread are packaged in a bag (1) by a method comprising feeding loaves through a slicer (11) in a feed direction parallel to the slices, feeding successive sliced loaves to a bagging mechanism (16) which moves each loaf and a bag relative to one another in a filling direction parallel to the slices so as to insert the loaf into the bag through an open end thereof, and closing said open end of the bag (1) to seal the loaf in the bag. The bag has an opening, preferably reclosable (5) that is orientated along the length of the loaf so as to allow equal access to all slices of the loaf through the opening. A consumer can therefore be offered a choice of different slices. The reclosable opening comprises comprise a zip-type closure (5) which extends across the opening, and a tamper indication (8, 9) is incorporated in the opening.
