DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MEASURING SCATTERING OF RADIATION
A photometric device for investigating a sample, comprises an array of radiation sources that are spaced apart from one another, and which are operable to generate radiation that differs from that generated by the other radiation sources in the array. The device includes a lens arrangement for focusing the radiation at a region of space where a sample may be located for example by means of a sample holder, and at least one detector for receiving radiation from the region of space. Preferably, a number of detectors are employed that are spaced apart from one another, and especially about an axis of the device, so that one radiation detector can detect radiation transmitted by the sample and the other detectors can detect radiation scattered by it. The radiation sources may be time division multiplexed so that in each time slot the detectors receive radiation originating from each radiation source. In an alternative embodiment, the radiation from the region of space may be transmitted to the sample via a beam homogeniser, for example an optical waveguide in the form of an optical fibre, which may be used to reduce or remove speckle where laser diodes are employed as the radiation sources. The device may be used to determine the particle size distribution of particles in a sample by a method employing Bayesian inference.

Also disclosed is a blister pack (200) for use with a dry powder inhaler and including a dose of powder for inhalation, the blister comprising: a base part (202) comprising at least one chamber (204,206); a grommet cover (208) extending partly over said chamber and defining an aperture (212, 214) above the chamber; and a protective layer (210) covering at least said aperture, wherein the edge of the grommet cover (208) defining the aperture (212, 214) is compliant so as in use to form a seal around a tube passing through the aperture.
A dry powder inhaler comprises two parts (2, 4) connected by an integrally moulded, e.g. living hinge (6), so as to be moveable from an open position to a closed position. The invention relates to a displacement unit for a high pressure pump (1), which is provided with a specially-designed force transmitting element (19), by means of which it can be ensured that the piston rod (6) of the displacement unit does not experience undesired lateral or transverse forces during operation, as is conventional in known displacement units. For this purpose, it is proposed that the force transmitting element (19) can have a lens-like design and be arranged between the end side of the piston rod (6) and the plunger base (20).

The canister is adapted to be received within the housing, whereby the central axis is substantially coaxial with the longitudinal axis and the canister is reciprocally moveable along said longitudinal axis of the housing. The dose counter assembly comprises a first ring rotatably mounted on the canister and having ratchet teeth thereon, a second ring rotatably mounted on the canister and having ratchet teeth thereon, activating means mounted on an outer surface of the first ring ,an inner surface of the housing, and a lever for operatively coupling the first ring so as to rotate the first ring in response to the movement of the canister along the longitudinal axis of the housing, and engaging means for operatively coupling the first ring with the ratchet teeth of the second ring so as to rotate the second ring in response to a predetermined amount of rotation of the first ring.
The present disclosure describes a dose counter assembly for use with an inhaler having a housing disposed about a longitudinal axis and a canister extending along a central axis. The dose counter assembly includes a counter body attached to an outer surface of the canister, wherein the counter body is adapted to be slideably movable along the central axis relatively to the canister, a ratchet wheel rotatably mounted on the counter body, a worm gear mounted on the ratchet wheel, an indicator rotatably mounted on the counter body, the indicator including a gear for engaging the worm gear, and activating means mounted on an outer surface of the canister for operatively engaging the ratchet teeth so as to rotate the ratchet wheel in response to the movement of the canister relative to the counter body. The ratchet wheel drives the worm gear to rotate, which in turn, drives the indicator to rotate, thereby counting one dose dispensed from the canister.
