The invention relates to an air conditioning system (1) for cooling a total air flow (2), having at least one precooler unit (9) with a precooler line (7) which conducts a first air flow (5) formed from air suctioned from the surroundings (12) and which runs through at least one first adiabatic evaporative cooler unit (15) for directly adiabatically cooling the first air flow (5); at least one main cooler unit (10) with a main cooler line (8) which conducts a second air flow (6) and runs through a heat exchanger (19); and at least one tank (22) designed to store coolant. A first coolant line (23) connects the at least one tank (22) to the at least one heat exchanger (19) and is designed to conduct coolant from the at least one tank (22) to the heat exchanger (19) for an indirect adiabatic heat exchange with the second air flow (6). The main cooler line (8) runs through a second adiabatic evaporative cooler unit (20) which is arranged downstream of the heat exchanger (19) and is designed to directly adiabatically cool the second air flow (6). A coolant recirculation line (25) connects the at least one heat exchanger (19) to the first adiabatic evaporative cooler unit (15) and conducts the coolant which has flowed through the heat exchanger (19) to the first adiabatic evaporative cooler unit (15), and the precooler line (7) and the main cooler line (8) open into a supply line (3) which supplies the room (4a) or the surrounding region (4b) with the first air flow (5) and the second air flow (6) in a mixed state as a total air flow (2).

Abstract
