Abstract

Pouches with easy-tear lines of weakness may be faced with difficult tear-initiation and un-controlled tear-propagation. Pouches formed on FFS machines may have mis-aligned lines of weakness as the film is known to shift on the machines. The tear initiation notches may also be mis-aligned with weakened lines. It has been determined that this problem may be solved by having a plurality of at least partly non-linear weakened lines where at least two of the weakened lines converge into a single line. This feature allows for controlled and guided tear-propagation so that a portion of the pouch may be removed easily. Disclosed is a pouch with a continuous edge or plurality of edges, the pouch having plurality of weakened lines starting from the continuous edge or from one of the edges; wherein the plurality of weakened lines are at least partly non-linear and at least two lines converge to form a single weakened line.

Abstract

Bound salads and other food products can enjoy decreased separation with the addition of a source of glucomannan, especially at from 0.1 wt% glucomannan and higher. Glucomannan absorbs substantial amounts of moisture released by the inclusions such as tuna fish, potatoes, vegetables etc, and as such, prevents "watering out" of the salad. Moreover, glucomannan is resistant to certain enzymes released by the inclusions such as carrots, cabbage, vegetables, fruits etc. Particularly important in this respect are amylases. By virtue of its resistance to amylase, glucomannan can thicken dressings in light products such as light mayonnaise, which often include starches subject to degradation by amylase, with little or minimal "watering out" in extended use.

Abstract

Desired skin colour is a major unmet consumer need in Asia. Consumers particularly desire even skin colour, absence of age spots (solar lentigines) and lighter overall skin tone. One solution is to use biological actives that reduce the activity of melanocytes in skin. These cells, present in the basal layer of the epidermis, make the darkly coloured pigment melanin and export it in small export vesicles called melanosomes to the neighbouring keratinocytes. It is well described in the literature that compounds which reduce melanin synthesis when topically applied to the skin will reduce skin darkness over time. This invention relates to a composition comprising a synergistic combination of ketoconazole and sulforaphane for use in skin lightening. This invention is based on the fact that a combination of ketoconazole and sulforaphane has been found tosynergistically inhibit pigment production in B16 monolayer cultures. Thus the composition, when applied topically or imbibed over an appropriate length of time in-vivo, would be expected to cause skin lightening, or to reduce blemishes and/or hyperpigmented spots and/or solar lentigines leading to an improvement in skin tone and evenness.

Abstract

Hair colourant formulations fall into three main categories designated permanent, semi- permanent and temporary. Permanent hair colourant formulations are oxidative dye systems and generally contain paraphenylene diamine (PPD) and resorcinol, both of which have been shown to cause sensitisation and mutagenicity. Furthermore, severe oxidising conditions are required which in themselves cause skin irritation and sensitization as well as hair fibre damage. The inventive method addresses the aforementioned disadvantages by providing a method of colouring hair fibres, the method comprising the step of applying a hair colour composition, the hair colour composition comprising: (a) (+)-Catechin, (-)-catechin, (+)-epicatechin, (-)-epicatechin or mixtures thereof; (b) A hydrogen peroxide generator or hydrogen peroxide; and (c) A peroxidase and; wherein the composition has a pH of 4.5 to 7.0, preferably less than or equal to 6.0.

Abstract

The invention relates to a transparent/translucent liquid antimicrobial mouthwash composition that is substantially free of low molecular weight alcohol. It is a problem to include antimicrobial actives of natural origin (essential oils) which are generally substantially water insoluble materials in an aqueous composition that is transparent or translucent. One way of including such oils in water while ensuring transparency is to formulate them in a microemulsion composition. However microemulsion compositions generally require high amounts of surfactants and solvents especially low molecular weight alcohol. It is thus a challenge to formulate a mouthwash composition that is on the one hand effective in killing microbes while on the other hand has a transparent/ translucent appearance while being substantially free of low molecular weight alcohol. The present inventors have solved this problem and have come up with a microemulsion mouthwash composition which meets all of the above objectives while being especially effective in killing S. mutans, a bacteria responsible for diseases in oral cavity.

Abstract

The present invention relates to an oral care composition and a method of disinfecting the oral cavity. So far synthetic material (e.g. Triclosan) has been used which is believed by many consumers to be harsh on them. Consumers, more and more prefer using products that contain natural materials. Further, in many countries, culturally or otherwise, people are reluctant to using alcohol in their mouthwashes. The present inventors have been working on solving these problems and have come up with an oral care composition which includes natural materials that are found to interact synergistically with certain metal salts in killing S. mutans, a bacterium responsible for tooth decay.

Abstract

The invention relates to a transparent/translucent liquid antimicrobial composition which comprises disinfectants of natural origin. It is a challenge to incorporate these disinfectants in aqueous composition while maintaining high transparency/translucency. Further, these compositions are sold in concentrate forms and it is required for the consumer to dilute the compositions with water before use. It is advantageous to provide a visual cue of turbidity on dilution to indicate to the consumer that the desired dilution has been carried out. The present invention provides a solution to the above problem by way of incorporating the antimicrobial agents in a specific microemulsion composition that ensures a transparent appearance when stored and transported and gives a turbid/cloudy appearance when diluted with water. The turbidity is enabled in short time span after the composition is diluted with water.
