Abstract

A universal light mounting box for retrofit is described. The retrofit light mounting box attaches to a junction box and receives electrical power from the junction box cables. The mounting box includes a canopy housing and a camera housing to provide wireless communication of both audio and video capabilities for the area around the junction box while also providing controlled power to a light fixture which is attached to the mounting box. A depending camera housing provides both audio and video signals which can be transmitted from the retrofit canopy housing electronics to a user's device.

Abstract

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for providing a lighting system that includes backup light emitting diodes (LEDs) that are incorporated into a primary array of LEDs of the lighting system. The backup LEDs can be illuminated when a utility power source for the lighting system becomes unavailable. The backup LEDs can operate from a backup power supply, which can be charged from the utility power source, when the utility power source is available. Furthermore, charging of the backup power supply can be temperature dependent, in order that the backup power supply and/or the charging circuit can be protected from damage caused by operating such components out of an operating specification.

Abstract

The described embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for establishing a network of sensor-responsive lighting units using an interface of each lighting unit. The interface of each lighting unit can include a channel selector switch for selecting a channel to which each lighting unit will be connected. In this way, the creation of a network can be created by placing the lighting units proximate to each other and selecting the same channel at the interface at each lighting unit. The lighting units can include sensors for detecting events occurring at each lighting unit, and information related to the detected events can be shared among other lighting units in the network. Each lighting unit can operate in different operating modes such as a testing mode for testing communications channels and a manual mode for allowing a lighting unit to operate independently of the information shared over the network.

Abstract

A solar powered security light is provided which includes a universal mounting bracket. The security light has a mounting recess which receives the mounting bracket and allows the luminaire to be variably installed in an eave, wall, and gutter or pole mount position. The solar charging station includes associated charging circuits to charge storage devices such that the security light does not need directly line voltage connection. Further the charging station may be placed remote from the luminaire housing and include required electronics thereby reducing the footprint of the luminaire housing and increasing the installation locations.

Abstract

A configurable security light is described. The configurable security light may include a first and a second separable lamp head, each of which may include both an upper illumination segment and a lower illumination segment. The lower illumination segment may be affixed to the upper illumination segment through a multi-axis hinge so that the lower illumination segment may be redirected to a secondary light output direction as compared to a primary light output direction of the upper illumination segment.

Abstract

Methods and apparatus for a security light having a remote photovoltaic module is set forth. The security light includes a primary rechargeable battery connected to the remote photovoltaic module while also having a backup battery system to be utilized when the rechargeable batteries condition require recharge. The security lighting unit functions as a security light to provide variable wide area illumination based upon environmental and battery conditions and also which power supply is optionally connected to the load, the load being the illumination sources and the various supportive electronics. The system further includes a controller which can not only operationally selects either the rechargeable batteries or backup batteries but also can monitor battery condition to preserve battery life. In operation, the security light may include a variable battery power supply for ease of installation.

Abstract

A circuit for operating a plurality of electrical devices such as lamps for outdoor illumination includes a plurality of motion sensor circuits for detecting motion relative thereto and a plurality of outputs conditioned upon motion detection. Additionally, a photocell sensor circuit for detecting a low ambient illumination level has an output command conditioned upon the detection of a predetermined illumination level that is electrically coupled to the control circuit for illumination of lamps at low ambient lighting levels. Abstract

A transmitter apparatus effective for activating a remotely situated appliance includes a radio frequency (RF) transmitter. The RF transmitter is configured to be mounted to a structural element of a building and configured to receive an actuation by a user to wirelessly transmit a signal. An antenna is coupled to the RF transmission circuitry and is arranged and configured to transmit the signal to a remotely situated appliance. The antenna is disposed within an opening in the structural element of the building and is of dimensions so as to extend at least partially through the opening. The antenna transmits the signal to the appliance without significant interference or absorption from the structural element of the building.

Abstract

An apparatus (500) can be comprised of a light source interface (503), an animate object detector (502), and a controller circuit (501) that couples to the light source interface and the animate object detector. This controller circuit is configured and arranged to, upon detecting (101) an animate object via the animate object detector, cause (103) energy as is provided via the light source interface to be only temporarily temporally intermittent in order to cause a light source that is energized by the light source interface to flash and thereby draw attention to the animate object.

Abstract

A light fixture (100) comprises a base (101) and at least a first arm (102) having a first end (103) that couples to this base. A housing (105) then couples to the second end (203) of this first arm and can serve to house both a light source (901) (such that emanated light will tend to be directed towards a primary area of coverage) and an animate object detector (902) (such that the latter will be aimed towards, and will tend to be sensitive to, objects that move within the primary area of coverage). By one approach, this arm couples to the base and/or the housing in a manner that permits an end user to adjust a position of the housing with respect to the base without requiring any hand tools. The housing can comprise a heat sink (906) if desired.
