Abstract

The present invention relates to a biodegradable thermoplastic film comprising casein and/or caseinate, and gelatin. The purpose of the invention is to provide a biodegradable thermoplastic film having improved mechanical properties, and/or having a compressive strength of at least 300 N, and/or which can be used for packaging liquid detergents. This is achieved by the film according to the invention which comprises (in % by weight): a. between 10 and 55% casein and/or caseinate; b. between 10 and 55% gelatin; c. between 5 and 15% water; d. between 15 and 25% of at least one plasticiser; and e. optionally, between 0.1 and 8% of a hydrophobic agent. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing the film according to the invention, and to a method for packaging a product using the film according to the invention.
