Abstract
A process for manufacturing anisotropic ZnO nanoparticles comprising the steps of: -providing an emulsion of an aqueous solution, an aprotic non-polar organic solvent which is essentially non-soluble with water, and an emulsifier containing functional groups capable of specific interaction with ZnO surfaces selected from the group consisting of a polyglycerylate; -adding, by maintaining the emulsion, an organo metallic precursor selected from the group consisting of the formula RZnOR' where R is Me or Et and R' is Me, Et, Pr, Bu, iso-Pr, tert-Bu,or OCH2 CH2OCH3 able to form ZnO; -reacting the mixture for a sufficient time to form ZnO, -removal of the water and the aprotic non-polar organic solvent upon forming of said ZnO, and -isolating the reaction product in which nanoparticles of ZnO with prismatic shape having a triangular basis are obtained in a colloidal dispersion. The obtainable nanoparticles of ZnO are used as UV-protective material for cosmetic and industrial applications. An improved UV-protection in the UV-A range compared to zinc oxide of other crystal forms is achieved.

Abstract
The invention relates to a method for producing alkali metal zinc alkoxide compounds, characterised in that: a) an alkali metal alkoxide is dissolved in a solvent; b) an organometallic zinc compound is added to this compound; c) this mixture is heated for at least 5 min, in particular at least 15 min, to a temperature between 20 °C and the boiling point of the solvent, d) the mixture is cooled, e) a polar-protic solvent such as an alcohol or water is added, f) this mixture is heated for at least 5 min, in particular at least 15 min, to a temperature between 20 °C and the boiling point of the solvent, g) the mixture is cooled and the resultant alkali metal zinc alkoxide compound is isolated.

Abstract
A method for manufacturing alkali metal-doped zinc oxide, characterized in that a) a zinc alkali metal-organic compound is dissolved in an organic solvent, in particular in an anhydrous organic solvent, b) another metal-organic zinc compound is added, c) the organic solvent is removed, d) the residue is heated to 200°C to 1000°C and e) the resultant zinc oxide is cooled.

Abstract
A process for controlling the scorch time (ST) in the vulcanization of vulcanizable blends containing a composition to be vulcanized, hydrophobized silicic acid and zinc oxide particles wherein the scorch time control is effected by the size and number of zinc oxide particles (amount). The process of the invention is also suitable for preparing vulcanized rubber articles.
