Abstract

A coiled tubing conveyance apparatus includes a tubing injector and a guide roller frame having a coiled tubing reel attached thereto movably mounted on the tubing injector. The guide roller frame includes at least one guide roller to straighten a coiled tubing extended from the coiled tubing reel. A transverse motion apparatus is coupled to the tubing injector and the guide roller frame such that the guide roller frame is movable transversely with respect to a direction of motion of coiled tubing through the tubing injector.

Abstract

A method for coupling a fiber strength member umbilical cable to a subsea equipment load transfer device includes separating fibers of the strength member for a selected axial distance at an end of the umbilical cable. At least one fiber loop is formed around a load transfer element of the load transfer device. Ends of the fiber forming the at least one fiber loop are woven into the separated fibers of the end of the umbilical cable. A length of the woven ends from an initial attachment point selected to provide a connection having a selected breaking strength.

Abstract

A method for drilling and testing formations below the bottom of a body of water includes disposing a drilling system on the bottom of the body of water. The formations are drilled by rotating a drill rod having a latch therein and advancing the drill rod longitudinally. At a selected longitudinal position, an upper end of the drill rod is opened and a cable having a measuring instrument at an end thereof are lowered into the drill rod. The drill rod is lifted to engage the measuring instrument with the latch in the drill rod. The instrument when latched extends beyond a longitudinal end of the drill rod when the latch is engaged.
